i have an 89 tbi 305 i'm going to swap an 86 tpi system onto, i still need to buy a set of 305 tpi heads. i'm thinking about having the heads redone with better valves and springs and the whole 9 yards, but i want to use a cam that's a little bigger than a stock lt1 cam. i'm new to all of this and have not the slightest clue of what i should do, but i don't have a ton of money to spend. any help you guys can give me is greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance,
-John

Try to search for a LT4 Hot Cam. Not sure if you have tuning issues with the duration but I hear it makes good power with a bumpity bump you can hear. If your going to have the old heads rebuilt, check on pricing a new set of heads first. Try World Products heads, not too expensive and good performance.

i don't have $100,s to spend on the heads, i really need to find used parts and just spend the money having them ported and whatnot.

The TPI setup will bolt on to the Tbi heads. They might not be the best heas but they will get you around and you can save up for some nice heads. You might need to get new valve springs if the cam is to big.

That's an 86 TPI setup which means it's for "old style" 305 heads. Anything SBC 86 and earlier should be usable with that intake. To use his TBI head he'll have to "slot" the middle bolts. not too big of a deal. You may wanna try the TBI heads, Fast355 had good luck with em.
