Summit 52mm Throttle Body

I am using a Summit 52mm throttle body on my stock 305TPI 85 Iroc-Z. The OEM body was cracked in the throttle blade shaft area and needed replacing. I have a high idle problem with the engine(1300-1400 in park) and have done the IAC and TPS adjustments per Vaders articles. I have checked for vacumn leaks and have found none(replaced all hoses). I had the idle problem before I changed the throttle body so I don't think that's the problem.I hear the IAC clicking during the adjustment procedure so I guess it's ok. However, if it is not fully extending during the adjustment procedure or is not working properly can it cause a high idle? Need help fellows, I'm at wits end. Thanks, Badman

Found that IAC valve was not extending out properly. Installed a new one and solved the problem. I'm learning, but I still have a long way to go on TPI. Badman

Your on the right track.

U investigated the problem and even went back and checked/tested new parts.

Its a lot cheaper that way than throwing parts at a car without bothering to check anything out :-)

Find yourself the factory manual on Ebay or buy new at Helm's.

It truly is your best friend.

Also thanks for posting what solved your problem, most people ask for help and never bother to say what they found

sounds like your TPI was the problem. The SMART thing to do is to throw it in the trash and carb it

are you ****ing kidding?!

okay you have done several things wrong and i will outline them for you
1 you bought the lowest of the lows, not only did you buy a TPI thirdgen..... but you bought a 305, i hope it came with a kick in the ***** when you bought it or else you got ripped off.

2 when your tpi broke.... you didnt rip it out and stuff a carb on there

3 you but an aftermarket throttle body on a stock motor.... i shouldnt have to explain that one

4 YOU BOUGHT A SUMMIT BRAND THROTTLE BODY thats like going to k-mart to buy your engagment ring for your wife.... but since you drive a 305 tpi i guess you'll never have to worried about being married.. its okay, we all have a destiny and yours is to be alone forever in a slow hunk of **** car

NO Turkey For This Guy

WOW, did this guy wake up unhappy. He dogs my car and assumes I am scared to go fast. Well, I am only looking to make a nice cruiser with this car and am not too worried about performance. As for for my personal life I am married(18 years), my wife wears a 3 1/2 carat diamond ring, and I shop anywhere I want,it's my money, which I have a lot of(own a buisness). I suggest you get from behind the comp. and go out into the world and quit sitting and wailing about what you think is wrong with me. Look in the mirror and you will find the real problem.Badman

Is the throttlebody a quality piece. I've been thinking about buying one myself.

What's up with that other guy?

Thanks
Frank

Is well made and machined properly. Only problem I had was the TPS mounting bolt holes were a different size from OEM. Went to Sears and found 2 new machine screws(metric) to solve the problem. Comes with IAC manifold screws and washers and throttle body to plenum gasket. Also new mounting bolts and they are metric heads.Had all the right hookups for vacumn and has 2 different mounts for throttle and kickdown cables.Too early to tell how well it works, just installed it and have only driven the car a few miles. Waiting on insurance so I can register and inspect car. Then I can wring it out and see how it performs. Hope this helps. Badman

BADMAN...

Expect alot of responses like that here...

Do what you gotta do and good thing you took the time and figure it out. Part of the fun about cars is the "Do it yourself" part of the puzzle of figuring things out.

I should have not even replied to that idiot but I, like others, are sick and tired of the faceless internet cowards who have nothing better to do than rag on other people. In the future I will simply not reply to a post like that. I donot want to get banned from this site as it has helped me alot with problems on the car and I enjoy the fact that there are others with the same interests. Now it's time to get back to working on the car.Hooker headers and y-pipe are the next mod. Badman

Dont worry about it, he probably drives a Honda Civic with a 4ft Wing on the back or an InTEGra with a 1.8L VTAK Engine.

Stupid ricers lol.

back to your problem badman..did you adjust the idle SCREW on the side of the tb? you can adjust how much the blades open. Unplug the iac and adjust the screw till you can just basically get the car to run (what like 400 rpm?) and then plug your iac back in and it should automatically open the iac to make up for another 300rpm and then should idle at 700 on stock cars?..correct me if im wrong, i havent driven a stock tpi without a cam in a longggg time lol.

if you cant find the screw..its by the linkage...sometimes (like on the stock tb's) it is covered with an aluminum cap that you can punch out

Yes I got the problem fixed. The IAC valve was not extending properly and I replaced it. Runs and idles smooth now. Badman
