350 TPI

Getting a deal for a complete 350TPI with harness and computer for 550.00, blown head gasket, it does run and can even drive the car. It's in a 88 firebird, ...........now the ????

what would I be able to do with the stock heads if there still good, I know I can put a LT1 cam in and will most likely get the kit with lifters. I have aset of headers for it now and plan on 3in exhaust

right now I have a 89 305TBI IROC, that runs great, just really can't pass this up.

will I gain much by porting the heads or should I look at replacing.

Not looking at huge HP just more respectable than the 170hp from the 305TBI
I will not drag the car so weight savings is not an issue, this will be a summer cruiser only.....most 300hp
One more question what about the fuel pump???? should I get from the 350??

Take the heads from the 305 and put then on the 350 for increased compression. Porting them won't hurt either. I don't know about the fuel pump though. Bt the way is this motor coming from a guy in Mattawan?

Good god, don't put those swirl-port 305 TBI junk heads on the 350... Stick with the 083 castings that are on it...

You will need to replace the in-tank fuel pump that is in your car with the TPI pump (which has higher output pressure)...

As for the wiring harness, if you can get the entire engine harness from the donor car, that might not be so bad, but keep in mind that it isn't that bad to do the TBI->SD TPI wiring harness conversion thats on this site. I have performed it myself on a TBI-to-LT1 intake swap conversion.. Works great and easier (in my opinion) than swapping the harness.

I don't think that the LT1 cam is actually much different than the stock L98 cam... Might want to check before bothering to swap it out...

yea it is in mattawan, I've gotten quit a few parts from him in the past nice guy to deal with.

No I'm not going to put the 305 heads on this engine, that never entered my mind,
are you sure the stock cam is an L98?

or does anyone have the spec's for the stock cam to compare to an LT1?

Yes I am getting the complete harness and computer

thanks for the reply

Was the car with an automatic tranny?

If so the cam is:
Int/Exh 179/194 Lift .350/.384

If manual tranny:
Int/Exh 207/213 Lift .415/.430

LT1 Cam (F-body verson, be sure to make sure you have this one)
Int/Exh 202/208 Lift .450/.460

The motor he has is a 350 TPI... == L98... If its an 88, and a 350, then it didn't come with that cam. Go here to see the specs of stock cams for an '88.. Or, if you're too lazy, it should be this cam:

Model Number - 10066049
Duration at 0.050" - 207/213
Lift (1.5 ratio) - .415/.430
Lope Sep. Angle - 117deg
Notes - 88-89 350,305

thirdgen88: who has that cam, I've looked in Jegs' Summit, and Yearone..

the closest I can find is in Yearone (206/210 and 450/480)

the engine is out of an 88 formula auto I think
