lol nothing, whatever works right! mine is from home depot, but i could never find anything like that big black elbow that you have. i mainly just need something to make the turn. i even thought about going with an lt1 intake elbow but the bad thing about them is that there is a bung welded into it for the sensor that we dont use on the tpi.
ANY OTHER PICS FROM YOUR INTAKES WOULD BE GREAT! get the ideas flowing

That elbow I am using is just a 90" PVC Elbow, the piece that attaches to the TPI itself is a 4x3 Reducer, ALL of the connections have rubber downspout connectors covering them with hose clamps....so no air can get out.

All that cost me under 15$

Yeah, pretty sure it is, the filter end has a 45" elbow, and the other is a 90", both 3.75-4 inches

Did you notice a fair amount of increase of horsepower after that?

I have no real numbers to back it up, but as soon as the car was started for the 1st time with it on, there was a Noticably louder sucking sound from the filter itself....more air..yay!

That, and I definately noticed throttle response went up, thats a fact, and as I said, I have no real numbers, but I can definately feel a seat of the pants difference at higher speeds...

Do you have an air foil? I only ask because it looks like it wouldnt stay in place if you did

I ran the same setup quisterio has and I noticed the same things he did. Mine sounded like a small supercharger . I also used an airfoil. I planned on using my front foglight hole as a ram air duct and putting the filter under the charcoal canister plate so that it gets pure air and not air from under the hood.

Re: air intake

I really need to make me one of those, think you can give a bill of materials or parts list of what you used? my stock duct work is cracking and i'm not passing emissions so i really wanna do this before I spend over $100 on a pre-made one! thanks in advance.

Re: air intake

I have a question about your intake setup.. how did you get the 4X3 reducer to fit around the throttle body? the TB is oval and the reducer is round, seems like you'd have to clamp it down really hard to make it oval and to seal properly.

Re: air intake

i had a spare reducer like that layer around and the other day for hahas i was just messing around seeing what i could do for an intake and you just crush it to an oval shape them put it on and clamp it down im pretty sure it was sealed tightly too.

Re: air intake

@quisterio... nice job on that intake dude. I've been meaning to do a custom job on my 93 LT1 something along those lines... the guy I bought it from put a crappy ebay CAI on it that doesn't really sit where I'd like it to. Eventually I plan to do ram air, but as a cheap alternative for the moment (so I can invest in better bang for the buck upgrades), I wanna take some silicone piping down under my driver's side headlight, pop out that useless black plastic panel and stick a K&N cone filter down there so it gets air directly blown into it. Your piping has inspired some ideas

Re: air intake

I've been using this thread for reference and thought i'd show what i've done to my T/A.
I basically did the same setup as quisterio, but went a couple steps further.

I cut a whole in my battery tray, put a 90 elbow underneath it and attached the filter down under so i can get cooler air, instead of that hot air in the engine bay. I've noticed a difference when the motor is hot and during warm days, the car revs up faster and she can breathe

in addition, i left the flap underneath the nose open to create a lil ram air effect:

Total cost: $61

Hope this helps anybody interested in making their own cold air intake. :-)

Re: air intake

I have the same setup as Badazz85TA, I agree that having it behind the foglight gets PLENTY of COLD air...

Re: air intake

Re an elbow for air intake, I picked up a length of flexible hose by Spectre at Kragen's, hooked it to the tpi intake, easy fit, and directly connected the other end to the existing intake hose. I removed the box and brackets. It was a simple operation, and I noticed an immediate difference in performance. Total cost around $30.00. Havent yet messed with the air cleaner canister, but that is coming next. Undecided about the oiled cotton filtration media, however.

Re: air intake

welcome to the board, I prefer the oiled media because "wet" material usually attracts more dirt particles and such... this thread is kind of old and I am no longer using this settup...

Re: air intake

I had the same dilemma since my throttle body is similar to a TPI set up

had these already searched out...

ended up welding an aluminum one to my IC

Ive helped do a couple of V8s, did a little work in a northstar and helped out
on a few SC3800s... I wanted the 4.3 because it was a code W CPI
200 hp 260 ftlbs naturally aspirated and i just knew i was going to boost it.
there are about 4 4.3 fieros runing around but i believe mine is the only one
with boost

using the Syclone intake, ecm, and injectors etc was a natural choice since
moats adapters and lots of tuning soft wear available for this setup the boost
control is awsum btw.
