88 350 tpi build up
CAMS.......what a pain..
anywho...I just called Jegs and this is what they gave me,
249-12-402-4 which is a computer controlled (flat tappet)
Computer Controlled Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshaft
Lift: .444''/.444''
Duration @ .050'': 212°/218°
RPM Range: 1500-5500
I was told by another member to use a roller cam
completely confused
this is just a daily driver, with very slight mods

what block are you building up? is it a 87+ roller 350 block? i see you have 88 350 TPI in the headline, so i assume its a 350 TPI motor from a 88 car?
if so then they use a roller cam, and the one that jegs listed there is a flat tappet cam. NOT good
i'd go for the one comp cams gave you. thats a good TPI cam and should work decent with the stock computer and MAF. tune will be in order but you can get by without it for now.
just make sure you get your heads refitted with new springs/such so that the cam can work. that valve lift exceeds stock valve springs on TPI motors
another option is the computer controlled cams 210/220 degrees with i think around either .450 or .470 lift. there is another version with .500/.510 lift but that will also need new springs

heres some good cams for a fairly mild build up. it would be best with heads/TPI aftermarket parts but will work good for now
Computer controlled Comp Cams
XR264HR 08-501-8 212/218 like u mentioned above..good cam
264HR-12 08-302-8 210/220 .480 lift (needs higher lift springs than stock)
This one here is abit milder than the 264HR-12 but is a nice mild TPI cam
262HR-12 08-300-8 206/210 .450/.480 (also needs springs for exhaust side)

okay another question...
If I get a complete kit, meaning lifters, springs, cam,timing chain set.
what would the problems be with going with a flat tappet kit????
money is an issue, but I still really want a respectable driver with no driving issues.

well generally a roller cam makes more power than flat tappet cams... and since the block is already roller block, might as well go with roller cam. In addition, roller cams are better for the valvetrain since the rollers have reduced friction on the cam lobes, compared to a flat tappet. flat tappets eventually where down and need replaced but i'm not sure how long that takes
sure the cams are somewhat expensive but its well worth it. if your that concerned with money on a roller cam, you could try finding a stock Lt1 cam and run 1.6 rockers. or even a stock LT4 NON hotcam. those two are better than L98 cams but still very mild cams.
Else the ZZ4 is your best bet. i seen that cam like new for 100 bucks. you can reuse the 88 roller block lifters if you have them. if not i can see why you want to go with a flat tappet, as lifters are expensive. unless you can find stock ones used or cheap.

seems like a nice kit...has everything in it that you need, including springs and new lifters. Do you have the stock lifters? if you do then you dont need new lifters as long as the rollers look good. they usually dont wear out.
if they make that kit with the slightly larger 264 cam, i'd go with it. either way that 262 cam is ok. I just really like the 264 cam for a TPI
