Best Heads (cntr bolt or not) for TPI
I will soon be purchasing a TPIS Bigmouth Manifold and LTR's...
My concern is which manifold to get... the one for center bolt heads or not.
I have the stock 305, future plans would be to replace with 383 (I may then decide to supercharge it too)...
I know the stock heads are centerbolt, I would like to get good heads, are these available with center bolt or would I need the standard / after market ones?
thanks,
Rafael

As of 5 minutes ago, the Edelbrock site says it has 2 different part numbers... 1 for centerbolt, another for non centerbolt / aftermarket heads...
I thought I remember reading some where earlier you could use either, but seeing this on the edelbrock site confused me...
Also, summit has a 3860 which is the eldelbrock for $385, but they also have a 3859 "big mouth edelbrock"....?? I spoke to summit, I know TPIS calls their ported edelbrock "big mouth"... summit wants $399... but he said it's an edelbrock part, but not in their catalog either... I'm trying to reach edelbrock and find out about the $399 "bigmouth"...

I just got off the phone with edelbrock tech, he said no, 3860 is for center bolt heads and 3861 is for perimeter, you can't use both, you need a specific one to match your heads...
????
He said "we are under contact with TPIS and cannot give any data out concering the bigmouth manifold" that Summit sells for $399.

So basically they are saying "Pay up or shut up"?
TPIS propaganda for ya.
Another for thought : "Bolt on 75+ HP with our intake!!!"
Little note nobody reads: Actual configuration may vary see our list of highly overpriced pieces of equipment you don't need for details!

not so much the how the vavle cover bolts up as much as the intake manifold bolts. most after market head make provisions for both types of vavle covers, but not for the intake.

It was edelbrock that said the above stuff, not TPIS.
TPIS claims 20 hp with their base, not 75...
Yes thier stuff is expensive, but they answer their phone..

Now about tpis, if you flip it over you will see it has part number 3860 cast right on it. In the past tpis got Edelcrock to remove its name and cast tpis on it, But now that tpis has no customer base for the intake, tpis has to take an Edelcrock and machine the name off it and mill in TPIS.

Translation:
I'll soon be purchasing an Edelbrock manifold and AS&M runners at TPIS's rip-off price's
From all the information I've gathered from my own, and from other's experience on the subject of after-market base/runners, Edelbrock supplies TPIS with their intake base. It's an Edelbrock base that comes inside a TPIS box. Same holds true if you buy from Accel/Lingenfelter. It's an Edlbrock that ships inside the box. As for the runners, it's AS&M that provides TPIS with their runners. When you order TPIS runners, It's AS&M runners that will come inside the TPIS box.
All TPIS does is re-package what's sent to them, slap on their TPIS sticker on the outside of the box and raise the price.
Just wanted to give you a heads up before you ran off and spent more money than you should...
You may want to look at these two threads before you make a decision.
AS&M runners: These look awfully similar to the picture's of TPIS's runners on their website don't they

TPI intake base: Edelbrock is the only remaining manufacturer:

I missed out (and so are the people still waiting) on the ASM LTR Group Purchase... ASM won't return my call or email... have 10 people still waiting (8 months now?)
TPIS has them in stock... Ben from ASM was quoted as saying "they are the same" about the LTR, so both are mandrel bent aluminum tubing welded to CNC'd plates... that comment doesn't say "we build them for TPIS".
Last week, TPIS said that Edelbrock does make their base, but that it's their casting... Is it more than the edelbrock, only $15 by Summit... are the ports bigger, I think... but I have neither here in front of me...
Not trying to argue here, but just relaying what I've been told & seems everyone has a different answer...

I'm pretty sure we have 1 or 2 spots left over from those who cancelled their orders. If you're not in a huge rush to get these runners, you may want to try and contact FastToy's Performance and ask them if there are any available openings left. If there are, you could always jump in and get a set for yourself.

Good luck either way. Hope you're happy with what ever route you decide to take.
