why is it flooding?

ive had this happen twice now and i dont know whats causing it...i went to start the car today (89 350 tpi) and it was sputering real bad and wouldnt stay running with out your foot on the throttle. So i started lookin things over tryin to find something unpluged or out of place because i just put factory rockers back on and i cant find anything obvious. fuel pressure is fine about 40psi at key turn. So i pulled a plug only to find it soaked with gas. i went ahead and pulled all of them and cleaned them out alittle only for it not start at all it just turns over and it seems a bit fast and yes there is fire and the timing doesnt "seem" to be off i messed around with it alittle...any ideas? also it does have a hypertech chip and 24 lt1 injectors anybody had problems with it?i tried unpluging the cts as well but the car may have been to flooded again by the time i tried it.

Unplugging the CTS will only aggravate the problem, since the ECM will presume a -40º engine temperature and heavily enrich fuel to start. Coupled with the 24 PPH injectors and likely off-the-shelf (not custom) HyperScrap program, you have a recipe for flooding. The PROM should be customized for the larger injectors.

You say it is turning over kind of fast right?? It sounds like to me that the rocker arms are too tight and not letting the valves fully close thus equaling less compression and the engine would be easier to turn over.

update...checked over the rockers actually found them to be way to loose it was late when i put them on so whooops...but the car still doesnt start i did however find out that the dist is only sending out a random spark its not constant...what could cause that ? bad ignition module or is something wrong with the computer?

Could be a module, coil, cap, rotor, more than likely not the computer though.

well i checked the obvious before posting the cap and rotor are fine and in fact are relatively new maybe 30 miles at most. The coil(msd) doesnt even have a mile of use but i still had a back up and tried that as well...ive heard however the module is fragile but it was replaced at the same time as the cap and rotor so??? the motor spins over fast and might give short fire but thats it...

Mine did the same thing? Does your fuel pressure drop off rapidly when you turn off the engine? If so you propably have leaky injectors. Anyway that's what was wrong with mine. The cylinder(s) were filled with gas and the plug(s) wouldn't fire because they were wet.

actually yes it does almost as soon as you stop tryin to start it...i thought the valve in the fuel pump was bad...ive tried to check by taking the rail out and turning the key on to see if there were any leaks but i never found any

Check the pickup coil and reluctor ring inside the dist. I don't recall seeing the module giving intermittant fire myself but I assume it could be possible.

If the injectors are leaking you won't be able to see it. They will leak into the cylinder. I had a couple of cylinders partially full of gas and it was hydraulically locked. I mean the engine tried to turn over but couldn't compress a liquid. When the plugs were remove gas poured out.

well that cant be the problem...the motor is turning over faster then normal which would indicate the timing was retarded but its not. i bought a remand dist. today because it was about time for it anyways and still same results??? could i have messed something up seriously with leaving the rockers to loose(practically hanging off)? i dont know just throwing things out...but the only thing i can figure now is no compression im gonna check tomorrow..or a computer problem?
