MAF problems again

Ok so i just recently put a new MAF in my camaro and it seemed to fix a problem that the car had. At over 40mph if i would take my foot off the accelerator it would rev up and down from 500-1500 rpms. It stopped doing that for maybe three months. Then one time i drove in the rain and it started doing it again. I was pissed. Anyone have any ideas? I hate electronics.

I'd begin by closely inspecting the electrical connections at the MAF. You can also tap-test the MAF sensor to check for intermittent internal connections. What type replacement MAF did you install?

Its a brand new bosh (spelling?) unit. These things are pricy as hell new and i want to kno that its ok and its something else. They also replaced the burnoff relay at the same time. Im not even sure what that does or if that would cause these problems. Where is this relay located?

Is there an easy way of testing to see if the MAF is bad? You said Tap testing. What should i be looking for while tapping it? Also i was reading in another post that it could be my Distributor pick-up or/and my TPS causing problems. I dont know if it matters but it seems to act up more when its damp/raining outside. I took it out for a spin yesterday and today and it behaved itself.

That's why I suggested checking the electrical connections. Moisture can affect marginal connections, and the resultant signal to the ECM could suffer.

As for a tap test, the engine needs to be running and warm. If the RPM stumbles or changes when the MAF housing is gently tapped with a couple fingers, that can indicate a problem with the MAF hot wire or connections.

Also, what sort of air filters are installed?

Ok Im going to go and do the tap test and get back to you. The car has KnN filters right now that are clean and have less than 10,000 on them. Also should i be checking/suspicious of the TPS, distributor pickup, or the burnoff relay. Im not even sure where the last two are located. Thanks for the help.

Ok well i just went out to the car and unplugged the MAF and looked at the connector. It looked as if some of the connections were a bit loose so i tightened them up with a screwdriver by bending them tighter. Then plugged it back in and took it for a drive. It acted up again so when i got home with the car hot i did the tap test and it didnt affect the idle at all so im really confused now.

It sounds like the TPS to me. Check the voltage. However, it really sounds like a sticky tps to me.

Ok will check the TPS when i get a chance. However it looks fairly new so i dont think this is the problem. What brings me to that conclusion is that I recently had my shop diagnose and replace the MAF and burnoff relay and it got rid of the problem but now its back.
