i think i figured out why i seem to have a lack of power

I was searching for an exhaust leak in the EX Manifold.. decided hell tighten the bolts.. first front 3 were fine, was going for the fourth when i put my hand down and felt that the Knock sensor ( i think it is, Passenger Side Of block, Above oil pan in front of starter) didn't Even have a wire attached.

Thanks to buying the car from a kid who had no clue ( hacked up wiring and emissions) Dos anyone have the correct wiring diagram for the knock sensor?

I want to see if i can track it down in the engine bay, Hopefully at least.. And im hoping if i do find it and reconnect it that it doesn't cause more problems because as stated before.. kid before me may have unplugged it just to slow some problems down /shrug

Any help would be appreciated

if you call up pontiac in detroit they should have a 800 number they should be able to send you the info you want if you ask for resotration packet, but it might take a couple of weeks.

Runs better???? Until you send a rod through your block. Playing with fire without it hooked up.
Any repair manual will have the wiring diagrams for the knock circuit. Even the cheapo Haynes.

Do you even know what the sensor does? Your car probably runs worse when it's hooked up because the ECM is adjusting your timing because it's sensing pre-detonation. That's like saying you extinguished a fire by turning off the fire alarm

To the original thread starter: check my sig.

Im now engine god, but Im sure its there for a reason.

If the connector is not plugged in then search for it. It may have dropped down near the starter somewhere, or just hanging somewhere in the area.

If the knock sensor is unplugged, or if the wire to it is broken, I'd be surprised if there isn't a wire simply hanging somewhere in that area, either with or without a connector on the end of it. Maybe you've even seen that wire in the past and wondered where it's supposed to go.

So if the connector is still attached to the wire, just plug it in. But if the connector is plugged into the sensor, the wire hanging separately, then you'll need a new connector. But no worries, you can still buy them from GM or any auto parts store(much cheaper than from GM). It's the same connector used for the fan switch and a few other sensors, and they come with a wire attached. Just splice it onto your hanging wire.

And yes, having a disconnected knock sensor will cause you to notice a lack of power under heavier-than-normal acceleration. And after prolonged heavy acceleration, like up a long grade, mountain, etc., it will get much worse, and your service engine light will eventually come on. If that happens, pull over, shut down, restart, and go on your way, but with less enthusiasm! Then fix it soon!
