Good Buy??
I have came across this car and was wondering what your guys take is on it, and what you would do. http://cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp...111&aff=rrstar
Also what could cause the car to be hard to start, and idle rough? I am going to look at it this next week and want to know what I should look for. Thanks.

Re: Good Buy??
very nice car. hard start and rough idle could be so many things. between a bunch of different sensors and air leaks.
hard start could be fuel or electronic related. most likely the distributor cap/rotor or ignition module. or clogged fuel injectors or clogged fuel pump.
i have the same problem with my car and its getting better every time i work on it.
but it does look like a great buy mostly because of how it looks and the mileage on it.
i wouldnt spend 10 grand on it but if you have the money hell do it.
but be aware you might spend another 500-1000 trying to find your idle and start problems.
also could be your cold start injector or cold start valve.
if you do get it I can help you get started narrowing down the problem

id say if you do get it, check for air leaks, get an oil flush. not oil change get all old oil out and start fresh with a new oil filter. then change out the fuel filter they're cheap.
and also could prolly use a tune up which would more than likely help any problems it has.
check spark plugs and wires. and make sure you got a good strong battery.
and replace all dry or cracked hoses.

Re: Good Buy??
and get soem really reall strong and lethal engine cleaner to remove carbon build up. go to a garage see if you cna fine soemthing called 44k. its so lethal and strong they dont sell it over the counter. only certain shops/garages have it and they must pour it in themselves. get a full tank of 93 gas. and have them pour it in. drive the car till its almost empty to make sure it goes through the engine. them get 93 gas again and just blast it through your system. because 93 octane burns alittle hotter then lower octane gas and will flush out but the cleaner 44k ate away at and loosened up.
i would do that before a new fuel filter unless u wana do it twice to make damn sure.
becuase of deposits over the years in teh fuel tank that cleaner will prolly loosen it up and fuel pump wil pick it up and drag it through your fuel filter.
so do the cleaning solution go through two tanks of gas and then get the fuel filter.
also back to air leaks if it is an air leak that is causing a rough idle, run the engine and spray some WD-40 aroudn the hose connections and gasket areas.
depending on your engine type go to the tech article section on this site from the home page and look up IAC (Idle Air Control valve) and TPS (throttle position sensor) adjustments. if the IAC is dirty or the TPS is off it will cause a rough idle and so would the Minimum air/idle screw in the throttle body if you havea tpi.
can't help if its carb engine. never worked on carb only TPI
I hope some of this makes sense and helps.

Re: Good Buy??
Thanks for all the responses, I was planning on replacing the plugs, wires, fuel filter etc. The ignition wont be a problem as I already a completly new MSD ignition that I could use to check for problems currently on the car.
How does SeaFoam sound? I myslef havent used it but alot of people I know and talk to have and have had great results. I hope the fuel pump is in order, I really dont feel like dropping the rear suspension to get that sucker out. Also, couldnt the rough idle be from the ZZ9 camshaft that was installed? I know if you go with the 1.6 rockers that the idle will become more choppy and the car wont like to run unless the idle is turned up.
If the car is what the guy says it is, I will pick it up. But not before I can see what his bottom dollar is. I was thinking $9,000 would be a pretty good deal.
My only concern with the car was since the miles are low, engine seals, valve seal etc. I could do the work but would rather not have to.
Again thanks for all the replies. I will let you know if I get it.

Re: Good Buy??
Well, I bought the car and am picking it up this Friday. The car drives and runs great. It has no problem starting, but does have a stumble when you put it into gear for the first time. But after the cam install etc the car hasnt been tuned. So Im going to have the car dyno tuned to to fix that. otherwise the car is in Mint condition and looks and smells brand new.
