Time to play: Whats this part!?!? (Pics)
Alrighty I have put off this question for a long time. Awhile back I saw under the car changing my plugs, plug wires. I noticed this part that is located right between the last and first to last plugs closest to the firewall on the passenger side. It appers to have a little copper tube running out of it and a somewhat like metal clip pushed or snapped onto it. I have included pics for our convenience. It is the vehicle described under my user name. Any thoughts, suggestions, or questions I thank ya for. Catch ya later.

Looks to me like the coolant temperature sensor for the gauge on the dash.

No. Coolant temp switch. It's the switch on the pass side cylinder head that closes the circuit to ground to enable the radiator fan. The ceramic insulator around the terminal has broken off and the pigtail is missing the plastic cap (similar to the ks pigtail). Both conditions are fairly common for this piece next the exhaust heat on older cars.
Oh and it's a good idea to insulate the wire going to it. Seen them hang on the dipstick and stick the fan on.

I think that naf is correct,,, that temp switch operates the pass side electric fan on my car.

I stand corrected. I forgot the part about it being on the PASSANGER side, not the driver side. The driver side one is for the gauge, the pass. side one is the fan. They sell the pigtail replacement wire that you can crimp/solder/heat-shink on the old wire and plug on to the switch.

Thanks all of you for your replies. I notice when it heats up the fans will turn on. But I have just been cautious of the driver side fan, not really paying attention to the passenger side, you could indeed be correct. "Coolant tempature switch" this one had be stumbled for awhile. Thanks all look out for non operation of passenger side fan, if so ill replace it. Thanks again.

yea coolant temp switch, gauge temp is on driver side front between first 2 cylinders. hope u went with a low temp, and u can splice into the relays and have the second fan turn on with the first fan... i got a 160thermostat and 166 on 175 off fan switch and got both fans turning on the same time and i never have over heating probs... 160-170 steady all day

tpiparts.net has the replacement. its like 6 bucks or something.
I burnt one off and had to replace it.
As stated above, it is indeed the temp sensor that controls the passenger side fan.
