Stock timing 10*?

I have a 92 Formula with the WS6 handling package and 1LE special package. You can see my mods in my sig.

Anyway, from my understanding..the majority of TPI owners's stock timing setting is generally 3btdc through 6btdc. Well I went and checked mine last month and it was at 10! actually a little over. I never have touched the timing on this car. I am the 2nd owner. The first was a 56 year old lady who lived in the same town and I know she didn't touch it. Anyone else have a similar experience? I don't hear a knock so I guess everything is fine. Maybe GM tuned the car in the factory? thats my only guess.
thanks fellas

If she had a tune up done, the mechanic may have bumped up the timing thinking that it would help, and it probably did. Thats all I can think of.

Possibly. Believe this or not..the lady who owned the car never serviced it. She changed the oil only a few times! Thank god it had low low miles when i got it.

SOME PEOPLE..i do not understand. If it wasn't for me that car would be dead.

Did you disconnect the EST line before putting the light on it?

disconnect the EST , brown single wire by the blower motor then check your timing. It will be lower for sure

yes by disconnecting the electronic spark bypass, the computer will not increase the timing for idle. usually 10-12deg 500-800rpm.
so it is possible that the timing is retarded
1 or 2deg. and she probably only used the low octane fuel. 10deg spark lead (inital) is very common for performance. and you may want to use a better octane fuel to control detonation.

So thats the proper way to advance timing? Disconnect the EST? I won't get detonation at idle by doing that (since I'm 10btdc idling)?

So much stuff to learn. So should i do this?

Yep, it's the proper (and only) way of setting the base timing. You definitely won't get any detonation as all you're doing is keeping the computer from adding timing. Too much timing is one way of getting detonation, so you're safe there. To answer your last question: Just do it!
