what kind of performance will occur from removing the EGR?

by removing this what exactly happens , and what kinds of improvements occur?
do you just block off the area where the EGR was? any chances of a code 32?

13.51@104.27, but can run better as it is.

I just put a new 2100-2300 RPM TQ Converter. I hope a 13.20 or better

Getting rid of the EGR will prevent extremely hot exhaust gases from heating the manifold and cylinder heads even further. Is there performance to be gained? Not a significant gain, if none at all.

If emmissions (inspections) is not an issue then getting rid of the EGR would reduce the threat of future problems, like EGR problems, excessive carbon tracking in the manifold- which will cause idle problems ect. The less gadgets the less the problems!

If emmissions (inspections) is a concern, then keeping the EGR is worth it, since the performance gain will be minimal or non existant.

EGR actually cools combustion chamber temps and reduces detonation. Unhook your EGR vacuum line and see how bad it knocks. If you remove it, customize your eprom to get rid of the knock.

I pretty much ditto blak92 here.

But,,, I can't stand it. I gotta say it. The combustion chambers are cooled due to the inability to "re-burn" the exhaust gasses added by the EGR. So, while the chamber temps are reduced, it's being reduced because there is air space being occupied by exhaust gasses. While the exhaust gasses are hot,, they are not as hot as compressed “clean” air and fuel igniting,, therefor reducing the chamber temps. At what cost? POWER. You may have read tech articles,, that say "you can add more timing due to the reduced chamber temps". That may be true,, but no way - repeat NONE can that produce more power than a clean intake charge with proper fuel and timing – PERIOD. Are we talking about a lot of power here? I would guess not a lot, but an improvement none the less.

I can say I have my EGR blocked off,, and while I haven't logged many miles on it yet,, I've gotten no codes. I also am experiencing no timing “problems” or spark knock (per scanner). I bought the car minus the EGR so I can’t give a before and after comparison. However, if I lived in a state where emission were checked closely I’d leave it on,, since under WOT the EGR in a sense "blocks" the exhaust gasses from circulating (if it’s working properly).

Has anyone passed smog without their EGR, particularly in CA?

Yes, the cobuston chambers are cooled but the actual temperature of the HEAD is increased as well as the intake manifolds heat- from the exhaust gases passing through. It is beleived GM did not drill an EGR passage in the 'vette aluminum heads because it would somewhat suppress a few horses (with the heating of the head- not the CC which is cooled to reduce NOx, more heat reduces hydros), because of the aluminums susceptibilty to draw more heat.

I beleive the egr could become a factor in the thousands of a second, for a strict racer nothing else. Again it becomes a conveniance matter (of having less gadgets) than a performance issue.

EGR still runs through the intake setup on the Vette. The EGR is for emissions, definately, but it can help or hurt power output. Some race cars even run EGR. When my EGR valve died, my car knocked. Maybe Camaros are different. Don't expect performance gains and be prepared for possible drivability changes.

Don't forget, the computer shuts off EGR at Wide Open Throttle. It won't engage unless your road speed is High, and your idle speed is Low - and that means just cruising down the freeway, not caring about horsepower.

A spacer of sorts could probably be made to distance the EGR's hot convuluted tube from the intake, as blak92 mentioned.

My car passed smog check without the EGR. IM in Florida.. The off the shelf Performance Resource chip I installed comes stock with the EGR deleted. Ive verified this with my Scanner.

Like Tom said its turned off at WOT. It only comes into play at part throttle. The PR chip I have now has more part throttle and WOT timing than the stock chip. I have to run 93 though it pings without it at moderate/heavy throttle.

Just a quick note. The reintroduction of spent combustion gasses into the fresh combustion event is to reduce the combustion temps, not the chamber temp itself. It is to reduce NOx emissions, and usually does not adversly effect WOT power output. Just wanted to toss that out to clarify some points, hope it helped.

I thought that the EGR was disabled at WOT anyway so it shouldn't matter if you lose a few hp around town.
