Factory performance cam for 85TPI

I have seen a GM Hot cam listed in a few signatures of members with 305 motors. Is it made for TPI or TBI? Exactly what kind of performance does this cam have? I live in Socal, so I need to consider smog-related issues when swapping parts. Any suggestions on a performance smog-legal 305 cam? The engine is a new Goodwrench and I don't want to swap in a 350.

The LT4 HOT cam is made for LT1 and LT4 4th gen engines. It is a roller cam and will not work in your 85 block. You need cams made for 55-85 chevy engines. You're in luck because these are much cheaper. However, I have no experience with non-roller cams. Hopefully someone else will post here.

I wasn't specific enough. The cam I was talking about apparently was the cam offered with the 305/5spd. I have read on the boards that it was rated at 230hp. I guess the question I need aswered would be is it worth swapping it in for the "Peanut cam" in there now? And would the computer chip for the auto work with this cam? Thanks for your assistance.

If you have an 85 TPI car, you already have the good cam, not the peanut cam. 85 TPI was the only 305 automatic TPI to not get the peanut cam.

That is correct. The 85 305TPI came only with an auto and was rated at 215hp for the Camaro, and 205hp for the Firebird, due to a more restictive intake. It is the same cam as the 87 305TPI 5-speed, except is is not a roller cam.

89 Transam GTA, a few bolt ons
