Re: 13's with bolt-on LB9..... possible?

nope!..not gonna happen with just bolt ons. WHen I had my 305 with all the bolt on you could throw at it....and even an LT1 cam and a 2800 stall yes then I was able to get sub 13's ...but without the stall my best was 14.1..
So the stall would have taken me about 13.7 or so.

thats just my 2cents....maybe someone has done it..but I didnt.

Re: 13's with bolt-on LB9..... possible?

There is a local guy here, who now has a procharged LT1, had a 305 with bolt ons that did 13.98 (IIRC). I think he did 13.4x with nitrous.

Re: 13's with bolt-on LB9..... possible?

i think its very possible for a stick car, full bolt ons, the right gear and a little tuning to get the most out of the combo. do you consider 1.6 rockers a bolt on? i do and they are worth some power.

i know a guy that went high 14's bone stock with a older MAF stick 305 TPI car. Speed density cars were faster. gears tires and full bolt ons should have gotten him close

a auto 305 usually got the peanut cam, so i doubt it will get a 13 second pass. but to get close it will need every bolt on and then some weight reduction with the right converter/gear/tire. skinnies up front and light weight drag wheel would help

Re: 13's with bolt-on LB9..... possible?

yeah more than likely you would need a nice deal of mods and bolt ons to get an LB9 in the 13s but, I never ran mine b4 so I'm wondering if my setup could possibly be in the 13s, mods in the sig.

Re: 13's with bolt-on LB9..... possible?

well I have a 90 formula only mods are K&N, edelbrock headers, magnaflow cat, 3" exhaust to a spintech muffler. LB9/auto with 2.73 posi. best E.T. of 14.7 best MPH was 93.

I have a BBK pulley set on the way, and will be ordering some 1.6 rockers and a shift kit. I may get a stall, but I plan on swapping in a T5 and I don't know if I wanna spend the $$$ on a stall that I wont have for long.

Thats pretty good consdering the gears ! Mine with a 5 speed and 3.08's( 305 tpi) ran a 15.1@93 bone stock with 227'000km's on it and puffing oil. There was a guy here SLP-IROCZ I think . He ran 13's with an Lt-1 cam ...and some other bolt on stuff. SO yes it can be done pretty easilly.

Re: 13's with bolt-on LB9..... possible?

heads and cam 305 TPI cars can go mid/low 13s. mine would have went mid 13s if it woulda been setup to launch. It was trapping 101 and going 13.70 with a 2.2 60ft. I still have the long block, anyone wanna buy it? LOL. All it had was stock vette 113 heads with a cam and ported stock intake. I had edelbrock headers and cat back with stock 3.23 gears.

Re: 13's with bolt-on LB9..... possible?

Ed Maher on this board used to own a 92 Z28 vert. It had a 305 auto with 3.23 gears and he managed to get it to run 14.1 @ 95 mph with a 1.8 60 ft. Here is a link to his website:

http://home1.gte.net/res0t8sj/vert.htm

There are lots of good ideas on his site.

My car went 13.85 at 100 MPH with bolt on's and the 305 5/sp. (Headers, cold air intake, 1.6 rockers, underdrive pulleys, air foil, gutted MAS)

Re: 13's with bolt-on LB9..... possible?

i luv this thread.. so many people assume a healthy lb9 wont break high 14's especially in the racing section here, a well tuned lb9 with bolt ons will give a 5.0 ford a good run, despite what everone on here says..i havent taken mine to a track yet (they closed our local strip) but im hoping for low 14's and after adding a procharger mid 12's is my goal..

Re: 13's with bolt-on LB9..... possible?

I have a hard time believing that the bolt on 305's are getting 99 and 100mph trap speeds.

Re: 13's with bolt-on LB9..... possible?

i'm struggling to hit 99 mph with my HSR L98. even tho my car is fully optioned pretty much except no t tops and no a/c anymore. i made 246 whp.

if full bolt on 305's are making that kinda of power with a stick, i can see those trap speeds for sure but that is one stout 305.

Re: 13's with bolt-on LB9..... possible?

Tim Burgess has gone high 12s with his 92 Z28 with G92 on the original 305 short block, ported stock heads, cam, complete intake, tires, weight reduction, and about every bolt-on you can imagine. He's also run high 11s on a 150 shot. The 6000 RPM clutch drops off the line and power shifting each gear help a lot. Search this board for his name; he's posted his combo and results before.
