T5 and clutch questions

My T5's first gear has a tooth either missing or teeth bent. I can get a non-World Class T5 at the shop for $450 with exchange of my World Class. Is the non World Class better? He told me they were, he said that I can get on it more than with the WC. He also said the WC has paper linings on the gears, and when those are worn, you're screwed. Can someone please shed some light on this for me? Which is better, the WC or non WC, and why?
Next item of business, is my clutch. Those of you with T5's how stiff is your pedal? Mine is real stiff, it's been that way since I bought it. And the clutch grabs at the bottom of the pedal, (About and inch to two inches off the floor) Is anyone else's like that? What causes this? The master and slave cylinders are both about a year old, and the clutch is just over two years old. What do you think?

Do not buy the non world class transmission. The world class is stronger which means it will take more abuse. I think this guy has a non world class transmission and is trying to get rid of it.

The WC T5 is always better than the non WC. Dont listen to that idiot at that shop, and dont buy that tranny unless your really need something to drive.

The non world class is a weaker piece, and your car either has a bad pressure plate or it is the wrong type of clutch. The hydralic parts are not made to push the pressure plate of a cable or linkage type clutch.

That guy is the typical fraudulent mechanic douchbag, trying to rip your *** or just plain ignorant about T5 transmissions. Also, dont forget that they deal with all types of autos so maybe he flat out dosnt know. It seems like a lot of mechanics, especially form the old school, think that any trans that uses ATF is junk, because their old iron cased (hence the strength) 200 pound 4 speeds used gear oil in the sixties. This dude migh be planning to use your WC T5 in a hot rod he is working on at home.

Do not even think of the trade! WC T5 are a lot stronger!

It is real difficult to find an honest mechanic, that's why you must learn to repair these things yourself. 1 out of 10 are good, just finding the right one is difficult. Everyone is out for the quick buck right? Maybe I'm just too nice.

I went to another place today, the ***got kid behind the counter told me the only transmission work they do is exchange. Meaning again, taking my WC core, and I don't know what he would give me. Then the ***got tried telling me that the T5's hold they're value and that it would be almost $2K for a replacement! What a ****er!

Have you tried a wreckers?? I find that its hard to find a good deal when it comes to transmissions. I think cause they know what they are one of the hardest things to work on at home or with out first hand knowledge. Taking the old one out and putting in a new one is not a problem, build rebuilding them is a bitch.

I found a place today that specializes in Borg Warner T5's. The title of their ad says it in bold print. He said he'll rebuild MINE for $550. Is that a good deal?

Sounds like you have found a better deal with that guy. Any warranty? While we're at it, why not post this one on the transmission board????

Almost all the places I go, I get the same 90 Days unlimited milage. They say they can't control the way the car will be driven like they can an automatic. I posted this in both places... Sometimes the response on the tranny board isn't as great as over here, but this post has definitely proved me wrong.

550 is good. I rebuilt my t5 and it cost 600 to replace everything that had broken, 2 weeks later I said f&*k it and bought a tremec. I knew it would break again. They arent that hard to rebuild if you have a little bit of skills. I ordered a service manual for mine from fortes for like 10 bucks. Now I know a t5 inside out. Make sure that if you send it out you stamp it with your initials or something so you know you get yours back.

thanks, I never even thought about that! I just hope that the internals are WC, not regular and that if they charge me for WC stuff, then they better damn well be WC parts! Is there any way of telling they put WC parts in?
