MAF and MAP power, same engine

Which system will make the most power, MAF or Speed Density when used on the exact same engine?

They both have their advantages and disadvantages. Do a search on the PROM Board on "MAF" and then "MAP"; that you should bring out a lot of points about both.

I checked the archives but could not find anyone that has done a MAF vs MAP dyno/timeslip on the same engine.

I doubt you are going to find a post where someone timed there car with MAF and then converted to MAP and re-timed it.

People generally convert from MAF to MAP for a variety of personal reasons...(I've never seen anyone convert from MAP to MAF though the newer 4th gen version may be interesting).

There was a recent discussion (I believe that it was on the TPI Board discussing the advantages of both)...find that post.

Actually, go find Mike Davis' site, he did just that. If I remember right, it was basically a wash, but I think someone told me he ended up finding some more power out of the MAP system. If there is any difference, its minimal. I would just say its the same but the MAP is easier to mess with simply because nobody pays any attention to the MAF setup.

Check the prom board to try and track down where Mike Davis' site is.

Thanks, I'll try that site.
Maybe I should get hard numbers before and after the swap because I am doing it soon. I have too many MAF codes once in a while that I know are just glitchs. Also I want the "passkey" and thay are easier to scan then a MAF system. I am going to start burning my own PROMS too.

Those are good personal reasons. I also think there is more help available on the PROM board for the SD guys. Probably because more of the SD guys burn their own eprom.

I am working on a fix for the code 33 problem, but no guarantees as of yet I havent burned a chip to check it out and see if I did find the offending section of the bin file. The 89 ARAP code would then be comparable to what you are looking for I think, but if this is something you are going to do right away, by all means ditch the MAF.
