I would say that without a doubt the AFR's are superior to the Edelbrock's. This is just my 2 cents, but I bet a lot of people will agree.

I've owned AFR heads. They are like a work of art. CNC porting is the only way to go for accuracy.

What are some specs prices and why do you like them. Is the low end torque still there. Which ones do you use with 87 up 350. Need any modifications.
AFR heads are a fair bit more expensive than the Edelbrocks. I was also told that the AFRs are better fit for higher rpm, more modified engines. You do get what you pay for, though. CNC porting is beautiful work!
I have the Edelbrocks on my mild 350.

There is a set of used 6085 heads on ebay right now. You could probably get these at a decent price:-)

I certainly like the way the Edelbrocks look as far as quality goes. They are mildy ported straight from Edelbrock. I've been staring at them for months just sitting on my unfinished 350 TPI project. I'll let you know how they do in just a couple months more. A litte to cold here in Chicago just yet!
it depends on what you want the car to do. if you want torque and moderate HP then the edelbrocks are best. if you want a 6500+ rpm motor then the AFR's are better.

I have a set of AFR 190s on my 355 TPI and and I love em. When you order the heads from AFR, you get really personalized service and a set of heads that will be perfect for your setup (providing that it can breathe well of course). The workmanship is excellent and you can just look at the CNC porting and tell that they are some wicked flowing heads. If there is one area that you want to spend your money on it is the heads no doubt. The magazine prices ususally say 1500$ for an assembled set, but if you go to the website they say 1250$. I had them mill my set to 58cc chambers so it cost me about 250$ more but the damn power is unbelievable. I have heard that these heads are really torquey and I definatley agree. If you spend a little more now, think of how long you will have this set of heads and how many years of enjoyment you will get from them too!

As said above, heads are the key to power on a Chevy. If you have modest goals, the Edelbrocks will be fine. But if you have higher goals (as we all do at sometime), you may find yourself having to sell the Edelbrocks at a loss and buying the AFRs.
Other than cost, there is never a problem with having too much head.

A set of ported edelbrocks with a little spray and a properly setup motor/car can run 10's all day long.
There can be alot of problems with too much head....just like cams you can lose throttle responce and low end.
Thus the need for more gear/and stall to get the car out of the hole...then you lose streetabilty with that.
There is always a tradeoff.

The AFR 190's are street heads. These can be used on pickups! They are not too big for a typical street car. Edelbrock's are basically a GM head from the 60's cast in aluminum with a little hand blend bowl work.
Give AFR a call.

I agree with Dan. If the AFRs were 210s, I would agree with Don (unless the person was going for a serious strip car).
The 190s have good velocity and will help though out all lifts up to .550 (some serious lift too for everything but a strip car again).
If this was a 305, I would say "none of the above".
