hummm its a tough one...Minirams are great, but I think they are really ment to turn above 5500. More like 6500. I think for a daily driver, the aftermarket long tube and edelbrock base should get you where you want. I think you would make great torque/hp from 2000 to 5500. Midrange for a daily driver is what you want. And then there the questions of cubes too...I like my slp/edelbrock combo...my only regret is not to have changed the cam...

85 Z28, 355, edelbrock base, SLP runners (old style) 58mmTB, ported plenum, stock cam, fuel reg, TES headers, flowmaster, 3.73's, shift kit, MSD 6a, 305 hypertech chip (YUUUCK!) best prior intake mods: 14.6 @ 94, 2.02 60' temp: 78deg, 80% moist, on radials.
69SS, black, 3,73's, TH400, 402 BB, roller everything (solid 246@50 622 lift)+stud-guirdle, 67 Vette heads ported and o-ringed, about 10:1 cr KB pistons, should be done this summer, goals: 500hp and lots of fun

For idle to 5500 RPM I think your best choice would be the Eld base and SLP runners. The Mini ram makes lots of power, but it makes the power at higher RPM (6500) then the Eld base and SLP runners.

I'd say that I agree with IROC Bob, Mo, and 88GTA to recommend the Edelbrock base and the AS&M's if you favor performance without regard to cost.

However, I still think that at less than $250, the SLP runners are a great bargain, once you clean up the openings and modify your plenum to match. What's the going rate of a set of AS&M runners these days, anyway? $450??

They had an article in Car Craft magazine about a year and a half ago where they put a pair of the Accell LTR's on a Formula. They ran it back to back and picked up .3 sec. Somebody with more experience can tell you if the AS&M runners are even better, but that's proven. Let me dig around some and see if I can find the article and give more specifics. Later

Everybody says AS&M runners are great. So where can I see them? who is AS&M? Do they have a web site?
Sounds like I'll be saving up for an Edelbrock base and a set of those AS&M runners...

I'd say for the price of Edelbrock/ASM combo you could buy a MiniRam: both would cost around $800. But don't forget, for either one you'll need to buy a lot of supporting parts: larger TB, new cam and valvetrain, better exhaust, better heads, etc.,... Otherwise why bother?

There's a lot of rumours that the MiniRam works great at the top only. However, I've yet to see the proof(i.e., a dyno sheet) to back that up, and the guys on this board who run a MiniRam will be only to happy to squelch those rumours.

Now if you don't want to do extensive mods, I'd say get the Edelbrock(or TPIS) manifold and match it with either Edelbrock, SLP or TPIS runners.

So....
Why not use an Accel Super Ram?
It was designed for 383 CID and larger small blocks making power between idle and 5800 RPM.

Or....
While the AS&M runners are better flowing than "off the shelf" SLP runners, The AS&M are welded tubular aluminum and the SLP are cast aluminum. The AS&M don't have very thick walls and can't effectively be ported. Basically, what you get when you buy the AS&Ms is what you have from then on unless you cut them open, modify, and then weld them back up.
Since the SLPs are cast in an oval siamesed configuration with lots of material, you can port the living daylights out of them.
The SLPs aren't excactly great flowing out of the box but have tremendous potential. The inside port diameter can be enlarged considerably and the septum dividing the adjacent prts can be removed in whole or in part to "customize" individual port length. By doing this you can easily create a runner tuned to your airflow/RPM requirements.

22 lbs/hr injectors should be just fine as long as they are clean and working correctly.
