You need the speed density computer (7730), a speed density PROM, a speed density knock sensor, and you can convert your existing wire harness, or buy a new speed density harness.

Other extras might be the speed density air intake.

Well, code 34 keeps popping up. When I plug it into the scanner, it's showing 9gm/sec at idle, and it goes up when I hit the gas. However, for whatever reason, the computer doesn't accept the reading from the MAF and throws it into code 34. On top of all that I just changed the burn off relay, and all the wires appear to be fine. The prom id is something like 8614 or 8641, some combination of those numbers, and i cant even identify it I figure it might be less confusing to go SD

The code 34 is low voltage, high vaccum at the MAF. 34. I think u aren't wanting to take it to a mechanic for this so if u have checked all connections, hoses, and relays, check the TPS voltage. It shouldn't be more than .16VDC. U might even need a new MAF. This can also be from a modded MAF. There is no reason to switch to Speed Density because u are getting a code 34. Do u know anything about how SD works at all??

Correct me if i'm wrong, but from what I understand it uses a lookup chart to determine a/f mixture, where as MAF uses the volume of air, and SD uses the MAP sensor to determine the density. It just sounds less complicated. And cheaper to switch than to get a new MAF sensor only to have something else go wrong, as it often does on that car.

TPS is 2 days old, and properly set. This code has been popping up intermittently long before the TPS was changed, and has been on constantly since slightly before the TPS was "damaged" when i was changing something else. One mechanic told me that the PROM might be malfunctioning as it interprets the MAF reading.. My scanner shows the MAF measuring the right amount of air.. I checked the readings on a car identical to mine.

Do a search on the Tech board and TPI for code 34. This is probably something like a quick fix or u might need a new MAF, so check everything, or have a few mechanics look at it.

Here's a good page that did the MAF to MAP swap.

LOL, I just got a code 34 on my car!! It was running so good too, but this wasn't a 34 while driving, it made starting the car hard and ran idiotically until I started it again and it didn't do it again. I haven't had a 34 that made starting the car hard before, I just had it while I was driving. I might know what it is though.

Ain't that a bitch???
What do you think it is? Now that you mention it, my car cranks for a good 5 or 7 seconds before it starts..

When I bought this car 1 of the plastic vaccum hoses was cracked and the other owner just wrapped it in duct tape. It worked good until the heat in the engine made the tape fall off.

He had it on there good though, so when it did, I got a code 34 and the same kind of things (I'm not sure about the starting part, it might have, but I know thats how it drove when I got the code then), so I did the same, not wanting to get a new 1 and let maybe the next owner deal with it, and wrapped it like he did, but mine didn't come as good, and I can see that I am going to have to do it again because it is coming off some and air is probably getting out making the code 34.

Interesting.. my MAF had a small hole in it, about 1cm wide x 1cm high. I did a quick job of covering it with duct tape, and then some carbon fiber sticker crap. Could that be a problem?

Yeah, go and check it, even if it looks good, do it again, good though. See if it still does it. Mine worked until the heat made this 1 come off, so I'll just have to do it again, but better.
