Stock L98 at the track, Video (watch this u know u wanna)
This video is from may (i think) of this year. Takin at Dragway 42 in west salem OH. This was when my car only had a Edelbrock after cat, other than that its stock. The exhaust sounds pretty good in car. Enjoy!

Wow. I'm just a shade-tree mechanic but it sure sounds good to me! I'm 90% done putting in a new (reman) 350 TPI in my 91 GTA, which I've never driven since I just bought it w/ a bad motor. So, your video with an almost stock L98 has my anticipation level high!
- I had considered doing something with my exhaust - starting with the manifolds, but the clearance on the sides and back of my motor is tight.
-Sucks when a heater core has to be replaced. I assume it'll be a fun job. - You should've lied about the towel on your dash and said it was your date's underwear.

HAha, yea that heater core was def. not somethin i had planned on puking that day. Make sure u crank a little more timing into your L98, about 4-5 degrees advanced. And being a 91 you should have speed density which makes some power over the earlier MAF cars like mine. Let us know how it runs when u get it goin
Re: Stock L98 at the track, Video (watch this u know u wanna)
Can you please explain your reply regarding timing? Today I finished installing my new engine. Tomorrow, I'm gonna try to fire it up. I'm experienced replacing parts, but have never timed an engine, so I need all the help I can get. Previously, (on other old cars, as a kid), I'd just turn the distributor until it seemed to run good. But with a new engine, I thought I'd try to do it right. So, I borrowed an old timing light (but it has no manual). I have a factory manual and a Chilton's, which have a picture of the device that I'm suppossed to unplug to set the base timing (though I haven't looked for or found it yet). One of the books says to set it at 6 degrees BTDC. The Chilton's just says to go by the label. So, what did you mean by "a little more timing into your L98..."? More than your engine is set at, or what? Thanks!

You still spin the dizzy to get your timing off the timing mark like an old car. But first you have to unplug that wire as the book said. Then set timing, then plug it back in. Unplugging that wire is like unhooking your vac advance hose on an old carb motor.
Cars come from the factory at certin timing marks. 0,4,8,10. I find 0 and 10 to be the most commen. So it was orginally set to be at 0, you can set it at 4'ish. If it was 10, set it to 12-14'ish. Thats what hes talking about. Some say set it as high as you can untill you get ping at full throttle, then back it off.

Sounds good. Let me know when you go back to the track. I'll bring my cars up along with some other quick ones.

Sorry about posting this late, but yea im referring to the initial timing, mine is advanced 3 degrees, 9 total. I dont thin I'm goin to get back to the track til probably mid october. And I could use some other f-body's to run with. theres a couple 12- second LS1 6spd. cars there usually but never any TPI and only one or 2 LT1's. PLus by then the air will be super good!
Re: Stock L98 at the track, Video (watch this u know u wanna)
Thanks for the info. Hope I can get mine running as good as yours. I unplugged the (correct I hope) wire, to set the base timing. I put it at 6 BTDC. Now that I know that some people are advancing it even more than stock, I may play around with it later. First, I've got an idle that lopes somewhat, so I want to try to figure that out first. Haven't plugged the wire back in yet, so maybe that will change the idle nature. The gas in the fuel tank is real old, and I'm also going to try to check for vacuum leaks. I priced the IAC (Idle Air Control ?) sensor at $85, so it looks like that will be a last resort.
Good luck at the track. Which I knew of a real track around here for amatuers and passenger cars, KC area. (Haven't looked yet). Later. pentiuman

The lope may be the cam, or it could be a vac leak.
If its not throwing a SES light, dont bother replacing any sensors but the o2.
