Driving me up the wall!

This problem is driving me crazy. Around town I get no SES light. But on the highway, after 14 miles or so, on comes the light with codes 32 and 36. If I stop, and wait a while, restart, the SES light stays out, until I drive about 14 or 15 miles again.
Help, this is driving me nuts.

Cheers

Richard

My best guess would be that something is either loose or heating up to the point where a connection in your MAF system is losing electrical contact due to heat, vibration, or corrosion. I would check all your weatherpack connections at the TPS, MAF, and MAF power and burnoff relays and all their wiring to make sure you aren't shorting anything out. Clean all the connections with alcohol and/or a jeweler's file, and go ahead and replace the two relays, they are only about $11 apiece at the dealer.

The same thing happens to me. After driving on the freeway above 60~65 for more than 12 miles (or so) my check engine light comes on. There is no difference what-so-ever in the running quality of the car before or after the light comes on. When I restart the engine the light doesn't come on. When I check for codes none come up. I've asked this question on the board before and it seems that a lot of people have this problem.

If you find out what is causing it let us know. It may be some kind of stupid speed warning or something. Kind of like putting an 85 MPH speedo in a freaking camaro. What were they thinkin'.

Kevin,
Thanks for the reply, I will replace the relays, and check the connections, and James
I will let you know if I find out, and yes, it makes absolutely no difference to the performance when it comes on.

Cheers

I dont know if this helps but my friend had the exact same problem with his 89'Z and he checked every part of the motor nothing was wrong. All he did was disconnect the battery wait for 5 minutes, put the battery cables on and the light went away. The car must of stored the problem in its memory from the guy who had the camaro before u.

I have the exact same problem with my 86 Z28 305 TPI. It didn't start happening until after I got my exaust done (headers, no cat, 3 1/2" to Flowmaster w/ dual 3" out). Could this problem be attributed to lack of back pressure?

My 89 did the same thing, but also liked to stall after crusing for a bit then stopping. I pulled the codes and it said it was the EGR (code 32?) I changed the O2 sensor and it hasn't happened in almost a year.

If i were you i would change the 02 sensor and if that doesn't fix it, replace the EGR

I have stock everything including exhaust. Even after I replaced the O2 it still happens. My EGR functions normally although it is original.
