i have a 91 Z28, L98, but i dont know how to tell if it has roller lifters or not, i want to put a cam in it, but i will have to wait longer to do so if it is non roller, because i will need new lifters, therefore, i will have to save up for longer..... any info is great...thanks

every chevy v8 made in and after 1987 is a roller motor.sorry some very early v8's in 87 were not roller

Are you sure that EVERY chevy engine after 87 is roller. I know the Cameros, Firebirds and Corvettes are but I don't know about the others. My dad said his 96 Suburban with the 454 doesn't have a roller cam. Surprising, but that is what he has been told.

Close, but not quite. The truck blocks (or a majority of them) were not roller. I have a 1995 block out of a Chevy C-K truck and it's flat-tappet. I know the late model Y and F body block are, but not all.

Actually, IIRC all blocks (except the early '87 ones)after '87 (and maybe '89 for the BB I keep finding references for both years) had provisions for roller cam set ups.

hey what do you know ya learn something new every day
as long those roller lifters don't have a ton of miles(200,000)on them i would reuse them
i'm building up a 89 5.7 TPI the motor has 88,000 miles on it and i'll be reuseing the lifters

Yep, and the good thing with the truck blocks... 4 bolt mains!

 

I like the truck blocks. I've got 2, 1 is the L-31 I'm building, the other is a 91 350 out of a truck. It has the provisions for a factory roller setup, but its a flat tappet cam. Both are 4 bolts.
