TPIS Mini Ram
TPIS Mini Ram
I am building a 383 stroker for my 86 iroc and am wondering what intake setup I should go for. So far the TPIS mini Ram looks like the way to go, is it all it's cracked up to be, or is there something better out there?
Thanks

Re: TPIS Mini Ram
depends on alot of things...
- Where you want the powerband to be?
- heads and cam selection
- gear and transmission
Other intakes are, holley stealth ram, Accel Superram, FIRST intake or just Large tubr runners for a torque engine.......

Re: TPIS Mini Ram
It's going to be a fairly serious build. Looking to get about 500 ponies out of it. Aggressive cam, not sure what heads quite yet. Probably a 3:73 gear or so.

Miniram or Stealth ram or a Victor Jr EFI intake, you'll need a convertor too if you have auto and some good flowing heads.

A MiniRam will work very well on a properly built 383. I ran 11.61@118 with my 383/MR combination. That was on street tires and full exhaust including cats.

Re: TPIS Mini Ram
I am using a miniram III on vortec heads by re-drilling the bolt pattern to old style. It should breath good after porting heads.
Car is still in project phase though. I hope the 58 vette I put it in is done by next spring.

Re: TPIS Mini Ram
If the TPiS MiniRam is still priced at $1000+ and the Holley StealthRam is still priced at $500+, I know which one I'm using.

Re: TPIS Mini Ram
Will the mini ram work with a large cap dizzy? Or is switching the dizzy just a matter of changing connectors?

Re: TPIS Mini Ram
If I was TPiS I would dyno an engine with their MiniRam and the same engine with a StealthRam on it, and then publish the results if the MiniRam was better and worth the price. They havent done that on their website, so either the MiniRam is not better, or they dont care about SBC stuff anymore and only care about new LSX stuff.

Re: TPIS Mini Ram
Kevin - I would say you hit the nail on the head. TPIS is more into the LSX. Maybe the market is drying up on the TPI stuff.
I originally purchased the MiniRam because I just did not want to mess around with the SuperRam any longer. Once I switched, I never looked back. In my opinion, the MiniRam outperformed the SR.
If it were today, I would seriously look at the HSR. Two things that I don't like about the HSR is the need to use a small dizzy and the fit under the F-body hood. Holley could correct this so easy. I'm really surprised they haven't.

Re: TPIS Mini Ram
yes it was done at the tpis building. I have the zz409 cam along with it. It produced 469.8 horsepower. The torque was in the same ballpark, can't really remember it. I have dart 200 heads. Its a 2.05 intake and 1.60 exhaust. I have edelbrock shorty headers with a full exhaust system, and edelbrock cat back exhaust. Hey any questions with your setup let me know, i have close to what you want

Re: TPIS Mini Ram
What compression? How much timing? What A/F ratio? I thought maybe my headers were too small but I guess not, I have the Edelbrock shorties as well. I have the AFR heads that TPIS sells and my combo only made 335 rwhp, about 415 at the crank with an automatic. Torgue was 377 at the wheels. This is with a cam slightly larger than the ZZ409, I had that before.
