Cam Swap

l've got a next generation performance catalogue and l've been looking to swap the cam in my 1990 IROC-Z 305 TPI the description of one of the two cams lve been looking at are as follows:
cam 1: 50-state-legal stock 305 1200-1500 RPM range, ADV DUR: INT-260 EXH-260, Dur .050 INT-252 EXH-252 Lift: INT-.444 EXH.444 its a comp cam and it's "computer compatible." does that mean you can install it and go? or will there have to be some mods and tuning done? does anyone know what kind of idle l'll get out of it? just as smooth as stock or a little rougher? will there be a significant amount of gain considering it's a stock 305 w/ runners and 150 shot nitrous and an exhaust system? any info on this cam would be greatly appreciated

thanks a lot guys

Since your car is speed density instead of mass air, your car will not idle well at all if you install a cam. I don't know everything about it, but, I do know that you can't install a cam in a speed density car unless you switch over to mass air. Hope this helps.

You can put a cam in a SD car, but you are going to have to burn a custom Prom. Plus I have to recomend the ZZ4 cam. It will work well with your engine as long as you reprogram the computer. It will also work very well with nitrous. Nitrous does not like overlap (neither do FI cars) and it likes big exhaust duration. The ZZ4 cam has both of these qualities and is only $170 from Jim Pace performance parts.

Their catalog is free too, I recomend it, it has a lot of stuff.

Bull****. I have a pretty healthy cam in my SD TPI car and it idles just FINE with a stock chip. How the hell do these rumours come out anyway ? lol

synergy- did you have to reprogram anything when you installed the new cam? did you do it yourself or have it professionally done? how much did it cost you altogether after it was running and everything? any noticable power gains?
