TPI problems
TPI problems
I have a 89 firebird formula, it has a 305 tpi, it's a 5 speed. It's has some really biazarre behavior, the tpi has 2 fuses when i put both one of them in it runs good, but i has absolutely NO power, it's terrible, then when i put them both in, it runs really good for 2 soconds then it just dies. with 2 of them in for the two seconds that it runs, it runs like it's supposed to, then it kills it. I'm really at a loss, so any help will be greately appreiciated.

Are you talking about the injector fuses? If that is the case than it sounds like you may have some bad injectors. But I don't see how it would run correctly with only one injector fuse installed. I will have to look over my schematics and get back to ya or someone else will correct me. A little more detailed description of the problem would be nice as well. Like exactly what the fuse block says for each fuse, including the #.

Hello
i am helping lawnmowerpimp work on the car so i can answer a few questions..
we dont have a scanner so i dont know of any engine codes..
its the number 2 injector fuse
if its not pluged in the car runs like crap, and like he said when we stick the fuse in the car runs like it should for about 2 sec then dies. at one point we stuck the fuse in and it stayed normal and never died, the car ran great, but the next morning the after we let the car sit overnight problem came back. so something strange is going on. any help would be appreciated
thanks

Yeah, i'm thinking that it could be the injectors also. When only one fuse is in there, it idles fine (smooth), it also runs fine, but it has absolutely no power. But on the other hand i don't know why the injectors would work for a few seconds then quit. Could something of gone haywire in the ECM? Thanks for the help...keep the suggestions coming!

Only a few possibilities that I can see....
1. INJ2 injectors are sticking open and flooding the motor (all of them? not too likley, but possible)
2. You have one or more injectors shorted out that is pulling the voltage down..ohm out each injector, should be in the 18ohm range.
3. As you mentioned, the ECM QD may not be able to handle the load of the additional injectors. From what I've read, there is only 1 QD that drives all injectors.
><>,.><>,.,.
Nother thing, you could have a short to ground in the INJ 2 injectors harness too.
