86 TPI Assistance - questions within...
I've only posted once before about this swap.
Okay. Everything is 86 Iroc (LB9 / A4 - the wrecked vehicle ran and drove fine) Harness, ECM/Prom, intake, relays, a new looking MAF, I am temporarily using 88/89 'Bird ducting w/ a paper element at the end.
The fuel pump is a new Delco I ordered for a 91 Vette.
The only codes I have gotten were the usual MAF ones when you leave the wiring unhooked from the MAF, and EGR (left that unplugged too)
I had converted the car to a stick quite a while back when it was carb'd. It also has a Crane energizer 272 cam.
After reading a really good post on here, and also http://www.gmtips.com/3rd-degree/dox/tips/ecm/prom.htm, I checked my PROM, and it has
which I take to be a good thing (36th week of 1987 means my PROM has been replaced.
BITCHES:
I push the clutch pedal in at basically any speed and it dies. If I heel & toe it to keep the rpm up, and come to a stop, it won't idle w/out dying 99% of the time. If I restart the car, it will stay idling usually, but not always.
Other than that, it seems to be really easily drivable. It bucks a bit if you're below 1000rpm in gear and try and accelerate, but pulls clean other than that. It ~seems~ to have a bit of higher rpm characteristic to it than a week ago when I went out of town. (may be in my imagination)
I would also like my fan to work properly instead of all the time. I have been told that if the A/C were hooked up, it would. Hell if I know.
I really would like to know what direction to head w/ the drivability probs. Would a 5 spd PROM help? Someone referenced on here today that the only diff. was TCC existence (obviously) and something else, but isn't the VSS grounded or something? Can I mod my auto harness to do this?
Thanks for replies
Matthew

Buenos dias New Mexico......I'm living in Portales bout' 225 miles SE of you.
Make sure your basics are in order. TPS voltage at .54. IAC clean. O2 sensor, MAF relays, fuel pump relay, fuel filter. Intake bolts tight to torque, no vacuum leaks.
When you are 100% sure of these things then diagnose further on your idle problems otherwise this car will nickle and dime you to death replacing stuff you don't need.
Also you need to get your MAF and EGR functional. Your pissin' in the wind trying to come to specs without these components.

Well, I'm not sure why, but my scanner won't work through the ALDL. The MAF and EGR are hooked up and no more code throwin' is happening.
I bought my scanner and got a better one than other guys because I knew I was going to use it on something other than computer 4bbl sytems, and it's frustrating that I can't use it I will check the basics as you recommended; O2 is a new Delco; IAC should be clean still (I haven't burned my second full tank of gas yet; I LOVE the mileage increase!) and intake was very well cleaned & installed w/ new fel-pro gasket set.
Thanks for the good word.

madmax - it's an allscan 1 that I bought from autotestsys.com. It has always worked on other cars (83 L69, 86 L69, 87 L69, an 88 GTA, an 84 SS w/ 88 L98 swap, a 91 Z28) so maybe it is the the fact that it's an 86? Is that a Diacom "issue" or are there other 86 issues w/ all scanners?
thanks

Well, it's still stalling out coming down from speed, but if I blip the throttle & keep it going, it'll idle at a light w/out drama.
But, I failed emissions today the second time for CO only! @!#$!!!!
How would alcohol (yep, walmart health & beauty) affect CO? So far, I haven't failed HC on the first or second test (yay!)
Matthew (some really expired plates)

Unbelievably... I put the gear selector switch from the steering column in 1st, and it now stays idling if you push in the clutch and are rolling (at anything over 10mph or so...) I still need to unground ( I think) the P/N wire, and get a 5 speed prom though, I know.
Gonna put a non gutted cat on it this week and smog it; oughtta blow some unbelievably nice numbers. HC was 5/220 at rpm, and 135/220 at idle. CO was like 2.35/1.10. We're gettin' there.
