Car dies when BRAKING???????
Ok guys, this is really starting to **** me off.
Car idles JUST fine, runs just fine, everything is GREAT.
But when i brake heavily, or especially when i brake hard and turn, the car DIES!@$!???
Very not good when you're in the middle of traffic.
So whats going on?
Torque converter?
Brake booster? HELP!

If your brake booster failed on you, you'd have a rock hard pedal. Sounds Like your losing major vacuum. Id be checking for a vacuum leak. What happens when you accelerate and then brake with the car in nuetral?

this may be too simple but does it do it when you have a full tank of gas. i know my car will stall and try to die if i turn hard or break hard when i don't have much gas because the pickup can't get the gas that has sloshed to the other side

Well i chaced down the fuel theory
But then i noticed when pulling slowly into a parking spot my rmps dipped below 500, it wasn't stalling, but it was significantly dropping
I've done some vacum tests, and if i pull the booster line its got ALOT of vacum, and the brakes are much much stiffer....
so booster isn't it
fuel isn't looking likely
could a tq converter do this?

I cant give an honest answer on the torque converter. Maybe you should post this in the Transmission section. However. It is possible that maybe your engine is coming down to too low an idle and the brakes are just starving it for vacuum. Ive had that problem on a carburated car. But i think if the TC remains locked it will act like your stopping a manual in gear...I think. Trannys are kind of elusive to me. Just trying t give you some ideas. But i would look at the stability of the engine on decelearation.. I know I removed my throttle body off the car and cleanead tons of crap out of it. I mean a lot of sludge and replaced a filthy IAC motor. Youd be surprised how much carbon crap can get in there. It has a serious effect on idle and could starve the engine on deceleration. When its removed and you hold it up to the light you should see a crack of light around the closed throttle blades. Look for your problem here, it might be as simple as desluging the TB. Just use carb cleaner or Brake clean and a tooth brush. I even reused the gasket cause its a dry seal. Goodluck let me know what happens

OK. There is an easy way to test the torque converter. Find the plug affecting lockup and unplug it. This won't do hardly anything for driveability (lose maybe 2-3 mpg's...that's it). If your car stops stalling, then you have found your problem. If it is still stalling, then plug it back in and seek further help. I hope this helps at least a little.

Sounds like vaccume to me too but I AM NO MECHANIC. I would think that when your car is in D not OD the TC would activate differently. So I would try it in both gears.

i was told a good way to check for vacuum leaks it to use carb clean spray. start spaying in various spots sround the vacuum lines, if the engine changes its idle you have found it
