What Voltage Should I Get at CTS Connector?

I want to make sure I am getting the right voltage (or ANY voltage) at the wiring going to the CTS. Can I just turn the key on, engine off, unplug the CTS connector, and put my voltmeter probes into the connector terminals? Does it matter which probe goes where ? Could I damage anything if I hook up the probes backwards ( pos / neg)?

The CTS actually gives resistance (or ohms) across the two terminals. Very high indicates a very cold reading and low resistance indicates a hot reading.

There is a corresponding chart of resistance to temperature readings available somewhere on this site.

i believe its a 5v reference yellow, reading the
resistance back on the brown wire.
my si2000 is down.
if you arent getting any voltage, ohm the
wires from the connector to computer.
and if ok... get a computer.
i should be able to get the pin outs for
the CTS to computer connector. ill have that
monday...

Are you accessing SI2000 from your harddrive (CD Version) or are you getting it off the "net"? (its available on the internet too). Problem is, SI2000 doesn't show wiring diagrams older than 1998, so how are you going to look there?

the yellow wire should read 5.0v +or- .1 to ground and across the terminal to the brown wire. please do not do not test the computer for resistance, they don't like that. if you need to test the wires to the computer disconect the computer first and test the wires separate.

You can test computer connections for voltage no problem. Just make sure to use a digital VOM.
