what mod next?best mod for $200.00

i already have everything in the sig. i am thinking of getting the slp cold air intake and then gut the MAF. does this sound like the best thing to do next?or should i save up for something bigger.

i have to say headers. if you don't have to worry about being emmisions legal than you can get some for less than 200 bucks. if you want to stay emmisions legal then you will spend a little more than 200 bucks but its worth it. it'll wake up that 305 see what they did for me.

You don't even really need the AIR. When I get headers for my next performance car I'm not getting them. Make sure you take your cats out tho then, because they will clog up because of the heat. It just keeps the headers cool, get the jet hot coated to retain most of the heat and you should be cool.

Don't gut the MAF. Its not worth it and will show no improvement.

I did mine before learning a few things about it. Most importantly...your stock TB won't flow as much as the ported MAF, so why bother? Also, it screws up the BLM at idle.

I would do all the free mods first if you haven't done them yet(port plenum, coolant bypass, play around with the timing(6-10 degrees),170-180 therm, manual switch to turm fans on). I would buy a AFPR(tune with), and a set of Hooker shorts headers. They have 1 5/8 primaries, and 3" collectors. without the AIR tubes and Y-pipe you can find them from $75-120 used. If you bought them new it is around $140. I think there are some on EBAY right now for $75.Get a local muffler shop to make your Y-pipe(2.5"). Should cost less than $100(mine did). Try to find a Air Foil(used).

If you saved alittle, you can get a 2600stall Lock up converter for $300 at SLP. that would wake your car up(off the line)or if you have 2.73's, then you could get 3.42 or 3.73's for it.

If you want suspension mods(to hook), then I would get SPOHN LCA Brackets ($65)and LCA's(or box and bush you stock ones.its cheaper $40-55)

TAKE YOUR TIME AND YOU CAN FIND GOOD DEALS ON THIS BOARD.THEY ARE OUT THERE!

because a MAF with screens and fins will only flow around 550 cfm vs a stock 48mm TB which will flow around 700 cfm. Removing the screens will boost the MAF to around 650 cfm, and removing the fins will bring it to around 750 cfm. Removing the fins is a questionable mod though, as they are needed to cool-off the MAF electronics.

The main Problem with the Performance of the 86 TPIs was the damn cam in them. I would get a cam because without it your never goping to be fast. It has no lift or duration to really speak of. So if you cam dont allow the engine to breathe all the intake and exhaust mods in the world wont help!

I'd forget about the SLP CAI kit. You have to relocate your battery to get it to fit. Also you could build a better one your self with some ducting for under $20 worth of parts. It sure beats $200, the rest of which could go to other mods that the rest of the guys suggested. The first mod I suggest for any Uni-body with plans for power is SFC's. I have seen way to many friends with tweaked frames, stress fractures, and popped T-tops. Also, listen to Kyle F. The 86 had the downgraded cam. If you want to go anywhere powerwise, plan on replacing it. Sorry for the novel, just my two cents.
