Question about Spark Plugs

I was just wondering what are some of you guyz using as a plug on a pretty much stock 350 TPI except free-mods? My mechanic told me to ditch the Bosch Platinum 2's I just put on it and grab some AC Delco's, what do you guys think?

Re: Question about Spark Plugs

Delco replacements arent bad for a basically stock L98, thats all i put in on my last tune up. But the with the bosch platnums you arent gonna notice a performance difference really, although the longevity of the plug is increased as it is made of higher quality materials. Now a more highly modded motor or the use of power adder will need a more high quality lower heat range plug. But, with your set up Ac delcos will get it done for you

Re: Question about Spark Plugs

I have a friend that had a '91RS 3.1 a few years back. He had Bosch + 4's in it. Someone told him that they were crap and that he needed to change them. So he changed to a conventional spark plug and immediately noticed reduced performance. He just wished he hadn't thrown away the Bosch plugs.

Re: Question about Spark Plugs

no doubt plugs can affect peformance. I just havent noticed any major difference in any of the motors ive built or maintained, often if the motor is close to stock (heads cam intake) there are restrictions other than the plugs so a expensive plug is not really needed. really either way you go on the plugs will work well, more or less depends on if u wanna spend a little more money per plug i suppose.

Re: Question about Spark Plugs

okay my problem is this, I originally had bosch platinum 4's when I bought my car, Car ran great as hell. I changed them to autolite's which reduced performance, I recently did a spark plug, wires, car and rotor change using accel parts and bosch platinum 2 spark plug which resulted in a misfire. My engine guy said that the problem lies in the bosch 2's, he says their crap and to go to Delco spark plugs. Whew... Now do you suggest this or what?

Re: Question about Spark Plugs

The AC Delco's are perfectly fine. And for the performance thing..I highly doubt anyone will feel a difference from spark plugs.

Your problem is most likely not the plugs, it's all the accel stuff. I've heard bad things about accel parts in general on this site.

Re: Question about Spark Plugs

I don't think the bosch 2's are your problem, but I would still go with the AC's. There's no reason to get a higher grade plug when you don't have a high performing engine.

Re: Question about Spark Plugs

So, I did a lil research real quick and i've came to the conclusion that I am going to and should replace the accel cap, rotor, and spark plug wires.
More than likely I will replace with Hypertech car, rotor, coil and use MSD StreetFire Wires. sound like a good choice?

Re: Question about Spark Plugs

Throw in some AC plugs, MSD cap, rotor, coil, wires, and call it a day. If you have a autozone nearby their Conrad cap and rotor with the brass terminals is very good as well.

Re: Question about Spark Plugs

Something that should be said. Im sure most of the people here know this, though some may not. When the parts store guys try to push the gimmick plugs (+4s etc) they have the little picture with the spark "flower" of flame coming of the 4 contacts. More spark, thats the sales pitch. This is bogus. Electricity will follow the path of least resistance. One path only. It will not spark to both or four at once. It may alternate, as heat changes and resistance may change, rapidly. But it will not make 2 seperate sparks as show in pictures and related to the customer. In most cases it will in fact make a smaller spark, that will not be any more intense.

Re: Question about Spark Plugs

Since we are on the subject of plugs I want to mention that last year I changed the plugs on my 2000 blazer with Autolite platinums. It barely ran after that. Turns out the #6 plug was non-functional out of the package. Autolite=crap imo.

Re: Question about Spark Plugs

Working in numerous parts stores over the years I can tell you the only time your really going to see any difference with the bosch +4 or +2 is if you have some type of blowby. someone mentioned earlier the path of least resistance, at this is where it holds true. It allows the spark to travel down the least coated path. If you have a good running motor Delco's work great!...as per NGK put them in your dirt bike, not your car.

Re: Question about Spark Plugs

Im running the bosh plat plugs not the 4 or 2 the single ones what i noticed is it seems to run cooler then the ac delco ones i tried it also on my bone stock oneengine and felt no diffrence so if you have the free mods and opend air andless resctrive exhaust you can fell a diffrence in throttle responce, and and ya they last longer imop but this jsut me

Re: Question about Spark Plugs

I put brand new bosch +2's on my 350 tpi and the engine would shudder in overdrive. After changing numerous things, I eventually went back to regular Ac Delco's and the problem was fixed. Car has run strong ever since. Plus, you dont feel bad changing your plugs often because they are 4-times cheaper than Platinum plugs. Just my experience.
