Loosing patience fast...need help faster....please!!!

I am close to running the car off into a ravine and collecting insurance $$ even thoug it wont be that much. My problem is with EGR installation. After the dumbs**t motherf**kers at the local Autozone gave me the CORRECT EGR valve the THIRD time, I finally got it on. Thats not the problem. The problem is, i am not sure what hose goes to the nipple on the EGR. Also, the EGR dose not turn towards the firewall enough for a short hose to connect there. I have a 305 tuned port engine. On the passenger side of the plenum, there are two nipple-like attachment places for hoses. I have 3 hoses loose by there. One is a regular hose, that goes along the firewall to somewhere else...but ends up on the passneger side...where would that go? The second two, are almost as thin as electrical wires...and at the ends, they seem to have some sort of special end on them that is fatter than the rest of the wire. One comes off the EGR temp sensor, the other off something else by the valve cover. Which goes to the plenum, and where does the other one go, in coordination with the first hose i mentioned-the regular thick one? I am at odds here, trying to change this myself. I am also running into problems with the gaskets-trying to put the plenum in place with the gaskets isnt working(i dindt remove the runners from either side). I've had the car like this for a week, and really need the car back in operation. If soemone could please help me and explain everything before i go nuts, that would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A diagram would be the best thing here, unfortunately I don't have one! Im sure Vader does, if he happens to frequent this board. You could try posting in general if you need one.

Anyway, the line that come from under the throttle body will go into a vacuum junction near your #6 and #8 fuel injectors, and there should be a line that comes from this that goes into the EGR valve.(sounds like you pulled it out of the junction) You may have to extend it a little with a hard line and another rubber piece from the parts store if the new EGR is oriented differently, or you could move the entire junction. It looks like a little flat piece of plastic, Im guessing its about 3x2 inches.

The fuel regulator vacuum line connects to the small nipple on the plenum, and the third vacuum line should fit on the large nipple. This line will wrap beneath the plenum and be routed from around the brake booster.. don't forget the large brake booster line on the drivers side rear of the plenum, that sucker can make one hell of a vacuum leak(and no brakes kind of sucks). Don't forget all of the lines on the throttle body! There are three vacuum lines and two coolant lines.

Yes, i would agree that I would need some diagrams here....desperately...as i do not have the $$ to go to a mechanic. It is a bit difficult to comprehend these instructions, but nevertheless, i really do thank you for replying. I hope someone has some sort of diagram.

In reading this over and over, and looking at my intake setup and vacumn lines, i believe now that i know where everything goes and how....and that the advice was right, Rezinn, that i have to extend the vacumn line to the egr that comes off that junction by the #6 and #8 injectors. The morons that built this damn EGR, put the nipple connection on the WRONG side(drivers) when it should be at the passenger sides. Anyways, looks like i will just have to just have to extend the vacumn connection with a longer piece of tubing.

Please keep in mind, that the vacuum lines for egr go from the plenum, down to the egr solenoid, located below the coil, on the passenger side of the motor, then off to the valve itself.

have fun.........

Can you tell me how you knew it was the EGR that was your problem ? I have some idle and driveability problems and am wondering how you diagnose and EGR ?

Thx.

palric...

When my egr started to act up, i had the following symptoms: On longer trips, between 65-75mph, the service engine soon light came on...and usually either stayed on for anywhere between 10min and 20 MILES..then shut off and never came back on. More common symptoms would be like what happend to me...the car, on a cold start would want to stall, actually stall over and over again, or idle really roughly, and even idle at an abnormal low RPM. This would occur when the car was cold, hot or whatever. At stop signs, traffic lights, the car would seem to want to stall, and sometimes would. I also noticed a loss of power...didnt matter if the car was cold or hot. You know when your engine is cold, and you floor the gas pedal, usually, the car takes off like rocket...even quicker than when the engine is hot...well, the exact opposite happend to me-the car would hesitate, and shake almost violently...and also, again, acted like it wanted to stall. Are you getting a SES light? If you are, and you scan it, it should come up with a code 32 if its the EGR or one of its components that is linked to the vacumn system. So basically, if you are having these symptoms, you might want to check that out. Hope this helps.

Hey, mind passing those diagrams my way? I have an '86 TPI setup in my Z and it's been 7 months since my engine blew and was pulled out. The new motor is going in soon but I don't want to guess as to which hose goes where...I have a good idea, but I'm not positively sure...thanks
