SDPC Vortec base

Has any one bought one of these yet or even thinking abought it I have a home made vertion of this and was thinking abought changing to theirs but 400 sounds a little to much for me I was just woundering if their may be enough peaple interested that we may be able to get a group perchus to gether and lower the cost they use to come on this board quit often but I dont think they do now.I havent herd them say any thing abought the price whats the point of cheap heads if the manifold is so expencive.

Wow, was that one sentence? Anyways, fabbing your own intake would be difficult since (to the best of my knowledge at least) none of the aftermarket or stock manifolds for that matter match up to the intake ports on the heads. This would kill flow and defeat the purpose of getting new heads in the first place. So there's more than just the bolt pattern problem. Maybe if we all just say f*ck Scoggin D for a while they'll eventually start lowering their ridiculous prices and come out with their new items on time rather than a year late. But if you really want Vortec your pretty cornered unless you want to spend some serious dough and get the miniram III. But we won't get into TPIS and thier pricing. Sorry to ramble on but its a shame that the only two companies that offer any Vortec options are overpriced.

Does the vortec base flow any better than stock? Is it up there with the tpis and edelbrock ones? Better?

Dude, I'd just take the heads, bolt them to the block, line up the base, drill the heads for new intake bolts, remove the heads and port match an existing base. Then either find the EGR passage in the base, tap a fitting into it and into an exhaust runner for EGR, or disable it altogether. Vortec's only flow 230cfm or so on a good day...TFS heads flow 250 stock, and the exhaust is alot better.

All I can say is, they'd be good for a mild 350 rebuild or a hot 305. use split ratio 1.5 intake/1.6 exhaust self-aligning roller rockers and a cam that's not too big, somewhere around .500" lift, I'd have to look into it. port the base to match and the max flow of the hogged out base is probably enough to keep up with those heads. The Vortec's are nice as long as you keep expenses down...if you don't you may as well step up to a better cylinder head/intake combo. That's why I gave up on them...not that it wouldn't work but I wanted more power than that package could provide for that price so I stepped up to a TFS 23* head with a ported Edelbrock base. Vortec's are great used with a factory base, especially if you can do the porting/fabbing yourself. I'm selling my combo, I have not use for it now. It would be a nice setup with an LT1 cam for boost or a ZZ4 cam, if it'll fit...

I say **** Scoggin Dickey and their Vortec base. ****, for that price I could build my own and have enough for the rocker arms! You will need the crossover tube if you decide to keep EGR, though. 1 year late and then they want $400 a pop. Whatever...build your own dude, it's cheaper. If not, just go with a set of fully ported Vette heads if you can find some for around $500 or less...or just save a few more bucks and get a TFS head.

From what I remember, the stock TPI intake ports and the intake ports on the Vortec heads were WAY off. So if i remember correctly, it would be extremely difficult to modify a TPI intake to Vortecs and have them flow well at all. The bolts really aren't the problem. Search the boards it's there somewhere.

Making your own intake is easy as I said I already have the home made vertion the problem is that you can not port out a stock base as much as the after market bases already are I have fast burn heads on my car know and It runs great needs alittle more tuning with the chip but Im working on that I can modify the old syle edlbrock base but after I buld up the ports and portit out to the correct size you then have to have it reserficed and they charge 55.00 for that so the price and the time it takes woludnt save me any cash at all. So I thought mabe if their is enuogh of us that would like one of their bases then I would try to get a group price Im gooing to call them tomarrow and see if they will give us a better deal.We may beable to get a few of the vett group in on this as well. I will let you know what I find out.

I agree with dhirocz about using the stock Vortec heads as being a waste of time. But what the new SDPC vortec style base has going for it is that it will bolt up to Fast Burn heads which are absolutely insane. I know more than a few guys with carbed engines running 600+ hp NA with them - out of the box!!!
