24lbs Fuel Injectors on a 305 TPI

I just got a Edlebrock intake. I going to put it on to my 305 until I get my 350.
Since I'm gonna have everything apart, I want to put in a good set of aftermarkert injectors. I have original ones that have over 120,000 miles on them. I know that performance can be improoved, just by putting new, fresh ones in, right? Can I put 24lbs ones in there temporarily w/out them being an overkill? I do have an AFPR so maybe I can compensate.
What dos anyone thnk about the Accel ones? Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Mike

You'd have to lower the fuel pressure to 27.5psi. That aint gonna happen. You either need to run the stock injectors or change the chip.

That's the kinda straight, forward answer I wanted to hear.
Thanks a lot.

I agree with madmax the computer will be able to change the pulse width of the injectors to an extent but not that much. Im only running 22lb injectors on a heavly modified 305.

Yeah, you'd be changing the injector size by over 25%, there is no way your computer could compensate in closed loop, and open loop would prolly blow black smoke constantly.
With a simple chip change it woudl run fine though. I have matched 22s in my stock 305, no problem

I have them on mine temporary. I have a 350 computer and injectors on a Heavily modded .060 over 305 with 305 torquer heads and a 214/224 cam. The 22# were going bad and I had some Accel's intended for my 350 later on. I threw them on hoping to last until next Saturday. I bought some fairly new 19# off of Ebay. I expected it to run really rich with the 24#'s and blow smoke but it didn't. Actually pulls harder than before. So far no problems. I am however switching to the 19#'s with higher pressure for better fuel delivery. 24#'s are definitely for a bigger motor.

Update on thoughts on injectors... trying to stay in limits of stock ECM and ADS superchip for the 5.7L engine (1987): I intend to run a 150 shot of nitrous, and believe, maybe erroneously, that the upgrade to 24lb injectors and an adjustable fuel regulator to say, 46-48 psi, would be just the ticket to a safe operation... coupled up with an MSD ignition system for programmable retard, in lieu of the superchip... THOUGHTS out there... anyone been this route?

Okay... I'm getting confused... I have an 87 5.7L and want the 24lb injectors... I think... they wouldn't be too big, would they? and coupled with my new adjustable fuel pressure regulator? In fact, my understanding is that I am putting in the 24lb injectors in anticipation of a Nitrous kit, but I am putting in the regulator to keep pressure higher than stock, and thus a better atomization pattern... surely my ECM and ADS superchip can adjust pulsewitdth here?

Thoughts out there?

No, they won't be too big for your engine (I'm running SVO 24# injectors on my 355), but your chip isn't programmed for them, so you'll be running quite rich. Yes, the computer can adjust for this up to a point, but with a higher pressure, you'll probably get an engine code 'cause you'll max out your BLM. The best way to run these injectors is to burn your own chip (or have a good friend burn one for you) and tell the computer that you're running 24# (or 25-26 if they're SVO) injectors.

Greg,
Thanks... I've decided to get the TPI Specialties adjustable regulator and stay with my stock injectors for now... I'll probably bump the pressure up and see how it runs at the strip... to handle the future nitrous, I'll investigate a dual prom or MSD ignition system... thanks again
