Problems getting the intake off... help!

This sucks. I pull the engine out and try to take the intake off to put on my new engine and my torx bit breaks. Well, it was cheapy bit so I figured I just got a bit of bad luck. So today I go out and buy a lifetime warranty torx bit thinking it will be stronger because it's warrantied. WRONG! I bring it home and try to take the bolt off and it snaps too.... only this time it snapped clean so now the broken piece is stuck in the bolt and no way to get it out. Any ideas?? Also, even if I do get the piece out and buy a new torx bit it'll probably break too. How the hell am I gonna get this intake off?? Please help!

Drill a hole through it and use an "easy-out" to extract the bolt.

Alot of those lifetime warranty tools aren't woth an dang anyway. Get a good bit, like from MAC or snap-on, even a Craftsman is better than most.

Hey you should try a socket, they got a special flare socket or something like that any way their made just for those bolts they basically bit down on the head bolt. I had to use one on my tpi cause the tip broke and also rounded the bolt. They were my buddys, so I m not sure what they were called though.

Thanks guys. It looks like for the one I broke the top off on I'm gonna have to try the easy out I guess. For the rest of the bolts I think I'm gonna use an impact wrench. Torx Bit goes in and a strike with a hammer gives 200ft lbs of shock torque. That oughta work I'd think.

I'd have to add "Do NOT put ignorant torx bolts back in your intake when you put it on the new engine, use regular bolts like I plan on doing." I never did understand the idea of the Torx Bolt. Worst ****ing idea since Cease Fire Fuel Injection.

Also I'd add "Don't leave a motor mount bolt in and forget about it and spend 4 hours trying to pull the engine out with no luck" That's all I'm saying.

OK... this is gonna soud really cheesey as heck, but... Go to Wal-Mart and get a set of the "popular mechanix" Torx bits... i have used them for about 2 years now, and they havent even come close to breaking. And for the price of $9.97 (i think) u cant go wrong! Take my advice on this one

have you used them to take off a stock 15 year old TPI intake that's never been removed??

88 WS6 may not have, but I did something similar. I was parting out a couple of TPI cars in the junkyard with a torx bit set from Murray's (local parst store). The set cost me $13 with a lifetime warranty. If should probably be noted though that the bolt (regular mind you) on the thermostat housing broke on the '85. I don't know what it is about '85, but I have yanked 3 now (2 '85's and an '86) and both '85's had the thermostat housing bolts go....hmmmm.

Heat the bolts slightly with a propane torch and they will loosen up and be easier to get out. I know it is tight in there so be careful with the torch. The mini butane ones are very handy.
