Dip Stick Question

Ok, earlier this evening I had my iroc out and I went to the store. I thought that I would check my oil real quick before I went in. So i poped the hood took out the dip stick wiped it with a clean rag and when I tried to put it back in it went down half way and wouldn't go any further. I messed around with that that for a hour and a half, it was like something was stuck in there. But when i was ready to give up it slid right in. Not wanting to go through that again a got my stuff and went home. I have a L98 350. Has any thing ever happend to any of you guys with a L98?
Whats the problem?

I know on both my tranny and oil dipsticks if I don't turn them just the right way and use slight pressure putting them in, they won't go easily. It just happens.
