TPI Swap. What to do with fuel system?

Hi...

I have posted another thread on a question about what kind fo fuel lines I need but I think most of people didn't understand me 100%..

I am doing an Carb to TPI swap on my 87 Camaro. I have a stock 305 engine in it with a computer controlled q-jet in.

Now I have bought several items from Ebay that is on their way to Norway where I live.

I have bought: TPI SYSTEM from a 89 Camaro. TPI Wiring harness from a 87 Camaro. New Inline TPI fuel pump. MAF sensor and AIR cleaner box since I have carb from before.

Now I am not sure how to redo my fuel lines.
I have a fuel pump inside my tank now. There are 4 lines going from tank and to the front of my car (engine). I guess this is: Feed line, Return line, Vapor line and??...

there are 4 hoses going from the outlet of the tank that connects to each fuel steel line with clamps.

What do I need to complete my TPI setup?..Do I need NEW feed line and return line?. Or do I need only the rubber lines going from the fuel rails and to the steel lines?...And what about theese hoses that is connected with clamps from the outlet of my tank?..Will they tolerate the new pressure?

Please help me out those of you that have done this kind of swap before.
I am really looking forward to complete my TPI swap. I have also bought this book: TPI Fuel injection swappers guide by John Bachel.

Quite a project, yes?

Take a look at this site, it might help: http://www.chevythunder.com
There's a lot to it so, take your time.

Re: TPI Swap. What to do with fuel system?

Some slight confusion for me.

You say you already have an intank pump, correct?
then you bought an inline TPI pump?

I am thinking your intank pump will starve your inline pump. I would suggest just one pump.

Next. Which side of the car do your lines come up? Didnt carbs come up on the pass side. Where injected cars are on the drivers? You may need a corvette fuel rail for your existing lines(dont they point to the pass?).

Your current rubber hoses will likely not support the TPI pressure. You will need to replace them with high pressure hoses. Even if you think they will, replacing them now is a small price and just a bit more of time to keep your project from going up in flames.

Re: TPI Swap. What to do with fuel system?

I have looked at the chevythunder site and that is really a good "How To" site. They reallt give me good inspiration on how to convert.

I am sorry if I had wrote something wrong. I thought I was writing intank pump. Because I already HAVE one in-tank pump on my carbed system.
But that pump is not giving enough fuel so I need one for TPI.

My fuel lines are on my drivers side...I was looking under my car today to be sure. I know I sound like I don't have much experience on my car but I don't want to put my car on jack stands and start the TPI project unless I have everything ready..At least I will try to have everything ready...

So I need new hoses from the tank to the steel lines. OK, then I will buy high pressure fuel hoses

But I am still wondering about the steel lines. Mayby to buy a new feed line and return line?

Re: TPI Swap. What to do with fuel system?

If you have an in-tank pump. Just replace the intank pump with a TPI one for that year. I know thats one hell of a task, but that will be the RIGHT way.

Good deal on drivers side hardlines. If you measure your lines, I am willing to on mine and let you know if yours are the correct sizes. But yes, I would replace the rubber send and returns front and rear.

Fully and completely understand on not wanting to rip car apart tell you got everything and most of your I's dotted and T's crossed.

IN theory, the return line does not have to hold more than a few PSI of pressure. The supply line must be reated for at least 75 PSIG working pressure.

The thrid line on your tank should be a vapor collection line for the EVAP canister, and the fourth line may go to the side of the fuel filler neck.

Thanks...I appreciate that you are helping me this much.
I will measure today on my fuel lines. I know it is quite a job to change the intank fuel pump, but when I first start my project I think I am up to do this.

another quick question. The numbers you wrote. Are you measuring those in inches?..Because in Norway we always use millimeters so it was not so good to understand the sizes for me...

Yes, that was inches. My MM micrometers were acting up.

.375=9.525MM
.3125=7.93MM
