"Code 23"

"Code 23"
I just used the paper clip method on my car and it pulled a code 23. It is supposed to be the manifold air temp sensor. Can someone tell me where this sensor is, or show a picture of it? The only symptoms my car has is the torque converter doesn't lock up and it does run a little rich. The "check engine" light comes on and and goes off sporadically. Would that sensor cause these problems?

Re: "Code 23"
It wasn't too bad, but I do have skinny fingers, LOL. Mine was located under the plenum (i think thats what its called ) towards the back. You just really have to work with it to be able to get your wrench in there. I walked back and forth between the driver and passenger side probably 30 times because I had to work with it from both sides. If you remove the distributor cap it would make alot more room, but I hate to mess with that stuff.

So you were able to replace it without removing the plenum? I didn't realize that was possible. I'll look more closely at mine (I have a 5.0 motor), but that would be great if I could do it this way.

Re: "Code 23"
I would just like to know if you ever solved this problem. I am having the exact same issue and I cant seem to figure it out. " The only symptoms my car has is the torque converter doesn't lock up and it does run a little rich. The "check engine" light comes on and goes off sporadically. Would that sensor cause these problems? " Is perfectly the same as what is happening to my car, I changed the manifold air temp sensor, coolant temp sensor, throttle position sensor, and MAF sensor within a month of owning the car. Then about a month ago had these symptoms start and its like I cant even rive my car anymore because it is acting really boggy and slow. along with stalling every second time I come to a stop at a light. the last problem I'm having is when I do stop and its running still, I have to tap the gas to kick it down like a carbureted engine, it sits at 800-1000 rpm before I tap the gas and it goes down to 500 (or stalls out instantly.) any help would be sweet if anybody sees this of course I know this post is 10 years old.

Re: "Code 23"
Yes I've replaced the mat sensor, that's right after the code came up the first time, as for the TCC I was just hoping the original poster but that happens too. I guess unrelated problem...

Look at Post 4 in the link for the tcc schematic. You can use a test light on pin f on the aldl to see if it’s getting power during tcc lockup command.
If it is sounds like it’s the tcc solenoid.

If you have a code 24 I could see tcc not locking up with the loss of Vss signal.
It’s hard to get a response from a ten year old thread. And would you trust max hheadroom .
