pick me a cam [vortec tpi 355]

hello...
heres my specs....

355 roller flat top pistons 9.5:1 compression ratio
062 vortec heads non ported
fully siamesed slp runners, ported SDPC manifold, siamesed plenum,
268xfi comp cams cam with 1.6 rockers
full exhaust
i made267 hp at the wheels and 275 torque [wheels]
the dyno pull results can be seen on this thread.. sorry for the inconveinience..

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...tec-355-a.html

my valve springs were binding up and it one of th possible reasons to my low numbers.. many people have pitched in to say the cam isnt right for the vortecs.

the specs on the cam are 113 lobe separation 218 224 duration 570 565 lift.
yes i had the vortecs machined for the lift, but the wrong springs were installed by my engine shop FYI

ive heard the vortecs dont like that kind of lift... it should be low 5s?

thanks

Lee

sorry i forgot to specify, this car is a daily during the summer and need to be reliable.. but i do want to take it to the track.. so dont go crazy on duration becuase its a pain to tune and doesnt run well.

Re: pick me a cam [vortec tpi 355]

Unless you suspect that you hurt the cam or lifters, I'd just get a set of 1.5 rockers and the right springs and be on my way.

If there is other damage, I'd go with the comp XR269HR12.

Depends on what you want... track car, daily driver, weekend car/ocassional track car?

I'd say something like a ZZ4, ZZ9, LT4 hot cam, etc.

Re: pick me a cam [vortec tpi 355]

The goal is to make as much power as possible without turning into an overheating, non idling, track only machine. Not shy by any means we are looking t push this thing as far as it can go as #1 priority and I too think we should just bang on the 1.5's, fresh springs and give er a shot but we were hoping for some Vortec cam specific input and hoped that we may find someone who has tried a few combos and has the magic stick

I think you already have the magic stick for that intake/head combo.

Re: pick me a cam [vortec tpi 355]

I have a question, I see you have a vortec engine. I have a 1999 vortec 350 engine with the heads, can I use my 350 TPI setup on that engine?

are those Vortecs stock? if so, that way too much lift at the valve. they only like around .470"

Re: pick me a cam [vortec tpi 355]

the manifold bolt patern is different to run tpi on vortecs you need the SDPC manifold.
the heads are machined for the lift on the cam[.570 .565]

what ive heard is that past around .530 lift the swirl effect of the air entering the port stalls ruining their fast burn effect.

Re: pick me a cam [vortec tpi 355]

I put a stock LT1 cam in a motor for my sons 72 chevelle - vortec heads added rollers to a 87 and later rebuilt shortblock idles like kitten and pulls like a LT1. it is a SLEEPER! the lift is fine with the vortecs q-jet, small tube headers - it was a great idea except the LT1 has no lobe for the fuel pump
