cam and intake project
im trying to find the specs on the stock cam thats in my jasper 350. i emailed them and they said they built it to stock gm specs. ive been trying to find duration and valve lift and stock rocker ratio on a gm 87 350. they said the engine was built for the specs of an 87 - 92 factory firebird/camaro. i read the camshaft article and saw the gm stock cams. where would you find the model number at. would jasper use the same model number? how could i cross reference the numbers if they are different.

My guess would be stamped into one of the ends of the cam, but I'm not sure. You could also get a dial gauge and measure the travel of an intake and ehaust lifter/pushrod to be sure.

Re: cam and intake project
i guess ill just say what im after. I going to be using tpis runners and manifold. i want a cam probably from comp cams. i want a cam that will give me the best performance horsepower wise. the manifold setup on the tpi units give a good amount of torque. its the hp that its lacking with the stock setup. with the tpis units it makes power to 5200 instead of about 4500 stock. i want a cam with more hp in the mid to upper range without sacrificing a lot of low end torque. id like to do this without going crazy until i have a bigger budget, which will be a whole new motor. until then id like to do all this with still using the stock heads, as much lift as i can get out of the stock springs and rockers. main point being its a street strip car, vacuum needed and from what ive read no lower than 112?

Re: cam and intake project
.480 lift is max for stock heads.
a lot of guys like the comp cams tpi line up others prefer the cheaper crane cams, a few even use lunati.
tons of guys run the crane cam 2032 or 2040. I personally am about to put a 2032 crane cam in my 305 with .050 offset locks so i can run the increase lift as im running 1.6 full roller rocker arms.

Re: cam and intake project

i really dont want to have to machine anything either. it looks like part # 983-16 springs doesnt need machining?
