injector wire ?

ok well somewhere in my harness i have a break or somethin in my injector wire for the pass. bank. and it breaks up every once in awhile. i know that it is just a green and pink that control it. i know that the green runs to the comp. but what i am wonderin is if the pink is just a constant hot? and if i could just run new pink wires. and throw them to a toggle. kind of like an anti theft thing. but my other ? is that if that doesnt fix it and i have to run the wire to the computer, is there a special wire i need to pick up or just use the same guage-copper wire. Thanks Ryan

Re: injector wire ?

You sure it isn't the 10 amp fuse for that bank that's blown?

injectors are hot all the time wired in paraell, the ground is conectected to the chassis ground by the injector driver in the ecu.. so you can jump off the other side 12v+ but you should really have an injector fuse.. a short can start a fire plus cook the coils on the injector which will start to burn then BOOM, fire! thats why there are fuses..

Re: injector wire ?

so then i'd actaully be better off to run them to a toggle and just put an inline 10 amp fuse to each side?

i would fuse the injector banks.. just safer that way,, every car i know of has a fuse for injectors.. there must be a reason

Re: injector wire ?

10amps each. Did you look up the injector circuits in a wiring diagram, or did you just look in the fuse panel?
what year S10 is it?

Re: injector wire ?

That's because it's in the under hood fuse block labeled "ECM I" it's a 15A fuse and it supplies all 6 injectors.

A 92 doesn't have an underhood fuse panel, and definatly doesn't have 6 injectors.

When I did my swap, I baught a small 4 fuse blcok from AZ. I wired it just as a F-Body. 20amp FAN fuse, 10amp INJ1 and INJ2, and a 10amp feed for heated 02 sensor. The source for the block was spliced into the pink 12ga wire off the ignition switch. The block even snaps into the side of the S10s fuse panel.

Leave it to GM to eliminate things that make sense. Any reference I make to injectors in the future would be for my '99 4.3L TBI although they're poppit values the diagram labels them as injectors and shows them as injector coils.

Your fuse mode is perfect. I'd rather blow a fuse than kill the ECM drivers.

Re: injector wire ?

you have to check those wires. just put a meter on both sides of the wire where it goes into the computer - disconnect it from the firewall, and run some juice through it and measure the voltage. if it is bad you will know immediately. then replace the bad wire or you will have this problem over and over. and be sure to move the wiring harness around so that if it is a short you will see it. you cant see a broken wire inside of the harness or even the insulation, so run the test. wires get old and break.

Re: injector wire ?

ya im pretty sure thats what has happened is one of the wires is just broke. just aint sure which one but because my injectors aint got a fuse for them im just gonna rerun the power wires and do it right. and if that doesnt solve it then ill test the comp wires. and if i need to re run the comp wires is it special wire or can i just run the same guage copper wire?
