Crane 2032, CompXFI 268, LT4 hotcam- ?330jp
Which cam do you think I would be more likely to reach my goal of a 325-350 horsepower motor at the flywheel? My car is an 87 350 TPI with all free-mods, Edelbrock Headers, no emssions, heater valve delete, air delete, Walbro fuel pump, Hypertech Stage 2 chip, BBK afpr, Pro 700R4 built to 500hp, 2000rpm tc
My cam choice are the Crane 2032, CompXFI 268, or LT4 hotcam. I am in the near future going to go to a set of Patriot Freedom series heads but for now I'm running stock heads. I understand you can use offset valve locks and shims to get more lift out of the stock heads. I also plan on later updating to a TPIS intake with Edelbrock Runners, both ported.

Only the Comp 2032 will work with the stock heads, but the Comp XFI268HR-113 will give you the most horsepower, in my opinion. Its the newest cam with the best ramps.

Swapping the springs will get you at most .525" lift, and that's pushing it. And I wouldnt recommend anything bigger than the 2032 for stock heads. For all the hassle of a cam swap, save it and do the heads, cam and intake manifold at the same time.

Sorry I did not respond to your PM at a sooner date.
I love my 2032 cam. It sounds great and it was a pretty big improvement for my little 305.
I wish I would have had $$ for some heads as stated above. But how much money to you stick into a 305 with 100,000 miles on it.
Everything I bought I can swap over to a 350 build with no problems.
I bought a ported and polished plenum, Edelbrock hi flow runners and the edelbrock ho flow intake.
New springs are a must if your swapping out the cam with a larger lift.
You roller rockers should be fine. I did not buy new ones for my car.
I did buy a holley adjustable fuel pressure regulator, 24# LT1 injectors, new double timing chain and gear sets.
You can take everything off. Buy yourself a tool that threads into the spark plug holes to you can hook up an air compresser. When your changing the springs, this will keep the valves from falling down.
****this is a very good time to change those valve seals!!!****
I had to get my car tuned for it to run good enough to drive.
But my 305 is a nice little runner for what it is.
My 350 build is already in the works with a block bored .040 over already.
I have a steel crank lined up. Heads will be the biggest thing to find.
Best of luck.
But I do like my cam!

Hey man, I want to ask what exactly you experienced with this cam? Did you have any drivability problems? Did you still use your stock computer chip? What kind of gain did you see with this cam. I have a 91 350 tpi and i am looking for a cam that i can run with a stock engine and ecm. Basically i just want more power without doing a spring change, etc.

But it could have been because 5 out of the 8 fuel injectors were bad.
I love the cam, it sounds awesome, no drive-ability problems at all. I picked up more top end with the cam, stronger mid range as well.
Where the stock cam would die at 4500, this can goes till 5500 with no problems. I know my stock heads are a bottle neck, probably would flow a lot better with different heads, but its a fun car. I don't race it anyway.

Re: Crane 2032, CompXFI 268, LT4 hotcam? 350hp
I just put together my ZZZ 350, swapped out the 235/235 cam and 113 heads for AFR180's and a XFI268 with ported accel runners base and plenum. When I get it on the road I'll post some opinions and info. I think what everyone else has said here is the same thing you will continue to hear. Heads are holding you back. NO cam will ever give you it's true potential without some decent heads. With that being said, a cam doesnt always have to be a "bigger" cam to give you load of power. A well matched combo is the key. I hope to be surprised when I get to dyno the car. Good luck with your build
