New fuel injectors. PROM upgrade?

I got new .26lb injectors for my car to replace the stock ones.
Will the car run at all, okay, good, or better with the new fuel injectors if I do not do anything to the stock PROM?

Re: New fuel injectors. PROM upgrade?

You will probably run rich. The stock prom thinks you have 22 lb/hr injectors in the engine.

What, apart from DIY PROM programming, can I do to help this?

Chip editing/burning is far beyond my skill and know-how.

Re: New fuel injectors. PROM upgrade?

If you get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, you can experiment with lowering the fuel pressure. The amount of fuel injected is a function of the amount of time the ecm holds the injectors open (injector pulse width) multiplied by the amount of pressure on the fuel rail. Your ecm is going to provide the injector pulse width for a 22 lb/hour injectors, so you need to drop the pressure so that it doesn't flow as much fuel. Your best bet is to do it at a chassis dyno so that you can get a measure of the mixture in the exhaust system.

Re: New fuel injectors. PROM upgrade?

Do you have a scanner so you can see what's
happining when you lower the fuel pressure
You don't want to get it to low.

Nothing, really. Adjusting the fuel pressure is a band-aid, and you're creating a new problem when you fix the original problem.

A custom computer chip is the best, and only, fix. Post in your regional board and see if there is someone local who can help you.

Re: New fuel injectors. PROM upgrade?

So, I'm on the hunt for 22 lb injectors and cannot find anyone who sells them in sets of 8--I've found individual ones for 100+ per (very out of my budget). I've found plenty of 19 lb & 24+ lb sets, but no 22 lb sets. Any suggestions?

Also, do you guys know if the injectors used on the '87 Camaro are the Bosch III design?

Re: New fuel injectors. PROM upgrade?

Both Summit and Jegs sell 21lbs/hr injectors. They're the same thing as 22lbs in our cars.

Re: New fuel injectors. PROM upgrade?

I think Accel offers them....although I haven't heard the greatest feedback on them. Keep looking for the 22's or something close to it as possible. If you need something quick and cheap, look for the Mustang guys selling their stock 19lb'ers. Ford injectors are rated on different fuel pressure so that would get you pretty close. Otherwise be prepared to buy a custom chip.

I went to Jegs.com to try and find the 21lb injectors and I did find them. In the item description they give a link to a chart that says the stock 1987 Camaro 5.7L injectors are 24lbs. I really have no idea what I want to throw in there at this point.

Also, should I get the high-flow or high impedence injectors (the engine is fully stock)?

Here's the link to the chart that says the stock injector size part #:

As another poster had stated, go to FIC and get a set of the 22lbs bosch design 3. I got a set for my car and am very pleased. They only cost $169 for all 8 and come with a 3 year warranty. John modifies their bases so they have the correct installation height for our cars. Call him, you will find him to be very helpfull and all your problems will be solved.
