Motor Oil

What would be the best motor oil to put on a 305 TPI with 96,000 miles on it?

I wanted royal purple but have heard bad things about it.

Re: Motor Oil

Any top tier (name brand) 10W-30 will do. Resist the temptation to waste money on Royal Purple, Amsoil, and the other masters of marketing. I know, someone's going to say they use RP and have a million miles bla bla bla. :-)

Re: Motor Oil

i prefer castrol syntec or high mileage. castrol is good because it does not leave residue inside the engine and it seems to hold its viscosity well. (unless you go wayyy over on your oil change at that point any oil will) i am a fan of royal purple it actually worked very well for me but it is so expensive its not worth the price to me.

Re: Motor Oil

I too have always liked the synthetic oil.
I like valvoline, castral, mobile one.
What evers on sale.

You can go 5w30 in the cooler temps, and 10w40 in warmer temps.

People say 10w30, but 5w30 is better in cooler temps.

In the summer I use 10w40 or 20w50 synthetic in my little 305

People are always spreading bad information about oils. There is nothing wrong with royal purple except the price. Since you are thinking synthetic go buy some mobil 1 10W30 and don't give it another thought.

Re: Motor Oil

Just changed the oil in my 85 TPI IROC, Castrol 20-50 high mileage. I used to only put Valvoline in my cars, but since we only use Castrol at at work I have switched.

Re: Motor Oil

I used to use Amsoil but due to the high price and relative difficulty in procuring it, I just switched to Mobil 1.

Thanks a lot. I'm gonna try out Mobil 1 and see how it goes.
