350 vortec engine build

Hey guys hears my goal first to run in the 12's with no power adders and do it all day long

I have 350 vortec headed engine at a shop right now and what i got so far is a TIPs 52mm tb TIPs large tube runners and was gona buy a Edelbrock vortec base until i was reading some other posts (mainly the "quest for better flowing tpi") and heard about FIRST injections vortec base does anbody know what it flows??

My engine shop stated he was going to zero deck the block and put in flat top pistons to hopfully get mid 10-1 compression out of it perfrom a 3ange valve job on the intake 5 angle on the ex side and polish and remove some casting ridges in the intake he stated he didnt think i need to get bigger valves??? and stated that roller rokers were not nessasary and wouldnt recommedn spending the money

my cam choices are the TIPs the ZZ9 or ZZ409 cams or compcams xr276hr or the 268xfi hr13 or any othes you guys recommend that might work better.

I will also be getting a chip made or learn to do it my self have decided witch yet. but i have picked up quit abit from reading LOTS of past and present posts and I thought id just ask you guys
Thanks

Re: 350 vortec engine build

Stroke it - build a 383. Forget the 350. Heres what I'd build:

- 5.7 Roller block, bored .030, 0-decked
- Vortec heads, freshened, ported at least on exhaust side, machined for extra lift, big OD springs, screw-in studs and guideplates
- 3.75" steel stroker crank (383ci)
- Pistons to make 10.25 or so CR with 64cc heads
- Thin head gasket (steel shim is ideal) to keep quench tight
- xr276hr camshaft (I think thats the roller version of XE274 right?)
- Comp ProMagnum rockers
- Hooker 2055 or the full length 1.75" Hookers
- 3" catback of your choice, 3" cutout after Y-pipe if using shorties
- Holley Stealth Ram manifold to replace TPI (manifold and fuel rail set is probably under $500)

Then add a 3.42 or 3.73 gear, and a matching converter if using an automatic... maybe a 2500 stall.

Re: 350 vortec engine build

I dont really want to build a 383 at this time as i think it will outflow the tpi witch i would also like to keep at this time since ive allready spent the money on the stuff. BTW where do i find a SR for less than 500$???
I think ill need at least 315-330 rwhp to make it into the 12's do you guys think it can be done??

I run 12's with a carbed xr276hr Vortec 350.
3650 lbs race weight.
That works out to about 330 rwhp depending on whose hp calculator you use. I will say it's all in the first 60' though. I'm absolutely sure that if I could get my 60' times quicker than 1.9x's (best of 1.78) the car would be mid 12's.
Like you mentioned, 20+ mpg driving home from the track.

stealth ram is over 800(can) with rails, not that cheap anymore, just sold one at work yesterday, also, considering most steel shim heads gaskets are .015" to 0.020", you wouldn't want a zero decked engine. Ideal quench is between 0.040" and 0.065", if it was zero decked, and you ran that thin of a head gasket, your quench would only be 15-20 thousands of an inch.

A 0-deck is usually not actually a 0-deck... its really more like .005" clearance. Ideal quench space is around .030-50, .050 being on the looser end.
