depends on what amount of $$ you want to spend. Sure you can make a 305 fast.
But the same amount of $$ put into a 350...you will go faster.

It's just what you want to spend.

you should be able to get your 305 car in the 13s for $2K if you do the work yourself. that would be roughly 300hp.

Awesome thanks. Sorry about all the questions. I am new to the v8 power. To confess I drove a rice burner before I bought the camaro. I was planning on spending about 3 to 4 thousand on it when I get home from Iraq.

Best bet, buy a Crate engine $1549 from jegs gets you a 260Hp 350 brand new. just add your intake and a few small parts. Not bad for the cash. You'll spend that much building an engine with used parts and may not get that much HP

Re: I want to build my 305 tpi, how much power can i get out of it?

i have a 305 lb9 with stock intake with 21 lbs injecters, 3 inch flow master with no cats, k and n, fuel regulater, 2031 cam, 1.6 rockers, bored 40 over. with 324 horses 330 torque.

people will argue, but i have read u can get more out of a 305 with a tuned port then u can get with a 350. because the tuned port is holding the 350 back. (Don't know if its true just what i have read.)

so ya 350 are easy and cheap to build and so are 305. but untill i can afford a bigger better intake set up i'm happy with my 305. plus there aint no other tpi's in my area that can keep up with me.

I want to stay with the 305 being that is what is in the car. I want to try to make it look stock on the outside with a little power in the engine bay.

You can come close to 300 hp without getting too radical. How much money you spend will depend on how much of the work you can do yourself, or how much time you have to do the work for that matter.
I am quite pleased with the way my 305 performs, but I ended up spending a bit more than 4K on it because of that reason.

Re: I want to build my 305 tpi, how much power can i get out of it?

305's can rock

but for the price diff in parts ie pistons you can get a nice 350 block use your old crank and rods and buy some cheap flat tops

then take your 305 heads and have 1.94 valves put in them

buy a carbite bit and smooth it all out

put your tpi back on with 24lb inj and depending on the cam you choose you should have enough power for the street to where you are not worrying about knowing the amount of horsepower or toque you have
