I drive a 1987 GTA 5.7L 700R4 tranny. It used to drive ok, but know it turns off while driving. i can sometimes drive it ok with out it turnnig off, but sometimes will driving the car turns off even if im driving "normaly" (speedlimits). While driving when i get to a stop i have to keep one foot on the gas and the other on the brake.Otherwise if i let go of the gas my car turns off (revs fall all the way down). It turns on ok but even sometimes just trying to leave the car on, on P the revs just fall down and car turns off. I already change the IAC housing and the IAC as well.

 

Does it run fine at any speed except idle? When were the plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter last changed. Is the tps giving the correct voltage? How many miles on the car? What are the ohm readings for the injectors? Timing?

 

first be sure to check timing. it does sound like a iacv problem. is there any loss of performance? running rich?

 

Any ECM codes?

 

Hey i am having the exact same problems. I did a 305 to a 350 swap and ever since that i cant get the car to run right. Every time i get to a stop light the car turns off and wont start again for no less than 10 minutes. I always have to keep my foot on the gas and in neutral going around a turn or at a sign/light. i have a new bat., alt., starter, map sensor, ignition module....What can I do????? Also the car does seem to hesitate when it first starts and after accelerating.

 

I can turn on the car with no problem and drive it with no problems for about 10~20mins then the Revs start droping even with my foot on the gas so i have to be playing with the gas inorder for the car to not turn off, if it does happen to turn off it turns back on with no problem. I reacently notice that it only happens will in drive, if the car is on neutral i can be stepping ont he gas with no problem and the revs wont fall nor will the car turn off.

 

Dany, you need to try a new ignition control module. my car did the same thing....the icm is getting heat soaked. you can pull it and have it tested by autozone, but if its not hot it may well pass their check.

well the ecm chip was a failure the car is doing the same thing again. The chevy tech said he cant figure it out. The guy working on the car has been with chevy for 30 years and has never seen a car do this. He says its something with the fuel and the way its being delivered. When it shuts off though he said ether will start it right back up. I give up i have no idea what to do. it runs great cold and once its warmed up its really rough and wont turn on when its shut off unless it sits for 10-20 minutes. this is my only car so it sucks big time right now. Does anyone have anything?????

i've been having an icm problem too, but i think it might be because of my new ram-air hood, and the lack of weather stripping on the top of my firewall... anything think it coule be getting wet? maybe that's your problem spud

Does the SES light flash as the car is stalling/dieing?

As metioned before, did you pull any codes from the ALDL?
