ignition key stuck

Transmission: 700r4
ignition key stuck

my ignigtion key is getting stuck in the cylinder. i cant turn it at all. i figured out what was goin on. my car is an automatic with the 700r4. the shift button that you push in to move this shifter is getting stuck inside of the handle. once i unstick it i can move the igniton key. what is causing this?

There's a cable operated interlock on the ignition switch mounted on the steering column under the dash that prevents the lock cylinder from moving when the gearshift is not in park or neutral
The button getting stuck is probably causing the problem.

You have to fix the button on the shifter, the cable is not adjustable.

Pop the little clip out of the front of the shift **** with a paper clip. That will release the **** so that you can look in and see whats causing it to bind. You may also want to pull up the gear selector panel to check the shifter linkage, make sure nothing is binding up.
