best tpi intake manifold?
ok guys, sorry to be a bore, i have searched various threads on here but i just need a simple answer to a simple question!! what is THE best inlet manifold for our tpi motors? i dont want hsr!! i have slp siamesed runners and edlebrock ally heads but i still have the stock intake and its totally robbing me of power! i will, in time, open up the runners as much as i can and maybe the intake too as one of the guys on another thread has done but what is best to use? edlebrock? accel? cheers guys.

Just curious why you don't want to go with a better designed aftermarket intake instead of sticking with the TPI setup? You could easily sell what you have and go with a good performing aftermarket intake for probably less than what you are going to pay to make your TPI perform.
And please don't say its because of low end torque or power under the curve.

Re: best tpi intake manifold?
Basically you have 3 choices:
Accel
TPIS
Edelbrock
Accel stopped making them and now sends you an Edelbrock if you order an Accel. So that simply means TPIS and Edelbrock are the only games in town. It's too bad because the old Accels were a nicer piece than the TPIS.
(The TPIS has nothing on the EGR port, the Accel has the block off plate on there)

TPIS below

Accel below

Basically it comes down to doing your own porting after you buy one of these if you really them to perform. Although either is going to be way better than the stock intake when you take it out. I didn't do any porting on the Accel. It went in and then the SuperRam went in. I sold the TPIS.

After the awful debacle that was the large tube runner group purchase that AS&M botched (9 months of waiting and almost half of them finally showed up warped), I wouldn't even buy a set of spark plugs from AS&M.

And of course then there is the First Injection TPI intake system. Outflows all the others.

I didn't know AS&M made a base. Are you sure you're not thinking of TPIS? They're the ones that call their base the bigmouth.

You're right. I have the bigmouth base and AS&M runners. Mental swap.
I had to get my runners milled flat. The base had no problems.

Re: best tpi intake manifold?
guys, thank you so much for your response's! this really is the best message forum around! ok, butt kissing over, 1bdbrd, the reason i want to stick with tpi is because hear in the UK they're arnt too many american cars and the ones that are about are 90% carb motors or injected rustangs. i get some good comments at car shows and drag race events when i open the hood and show off my polished plenum and runners!! when i first got my trans am EVERY body told me to ditch the tpi and stick a carb on the which made me dig my heels in and say 'no'! and i take great pride knowing that i can p#ss all over my mates LT1 firebird! ha ha!! he's the guy that built my motor and gearbox and its a testiment to his workmanship regarding the times ive run! once ive gone as far as is possible with the tpi set up i MIGHT switch to a differant intake but im having a ball at the mo, i just need to sort this stupid intake out. so, my options are edelbrock or tpis? what ever i get i will be boreing it out to the max. ive never heard of first injection up till now, i may look into them! cheers guys.

The first injection certainly is a performer, but the look leaves a ton to be desired. Kinda big and bloated looking. NOT an option (in my opinion) for someone who concerned about keeping the looks of the TPI.
...but that's the great thing about opinions. We all have one.

Considering the TPIS mini-ram, but, not the HSR? I would be really curious as to why?
Neither looks like the stock TPI....

Re: best tpi intake manifold?
ok, i dont want to start any arguments here guys. i just want to keep my tpi set up but i want to upgrade the intake. i can appreciate the power gains the hsr offer but i really dont want hsr! i have slp runners that look great since i polished them, and i will open up the insudes in time. and i think i'll be getting the edelbrock intake due to avalibilty and price.

No arguments, just curiosity.
Edelbrock is a good choice for ya. Might consider cleaning it up some before you put it on though.

Re: best tpi intake manifold?
That too, if ya want. I was more referring to the runners and such though. (port work) Since you are replacing the one on the car, once you have the new one, no better time than when it is nice and clean, and not in use..... than to do some port matching, etc.
Also, with the polished plenum and runners you already have.... a polished base would be sorta the finishing touch.

Re: best tpi intake manifold?
oh, i see. good idea. my initial idea was not to open of port it out too much at first as i wanted to see if it made a differance with just the new intake, but i will be port matching for sure. then maybe a few months down the line ill go made with the drimmel!
