Car running very, very rich. I mean REALLY rich
So I was cruising around with my friend last night, I drive a '91 305 TPI. He calls me up and says 'Man..you just shot probably 6 inch flames out of your exhaust' I laughed and said 'thats cool, but uh...thats pretty bad.'
When I give the car anything over half throttle or so, my exhaust comes out pretty much pitch black, and it smells like unburnt gas.
So, intermittently I get a code 32, which is the EGR. I also have a bit of a valve/rocker ticking, so I'm going to adjust those tomorrow.
I'm assuming my car is running rich because the EGR is malfunctioning, my question is, can I clean the ports on the EGR, or do I just need to get another one? Only problem with getting a new one is I don't get paid until friday, and this car is my DD.
So, cleaning? Yay/nay? Or, are there any other ideas as to what it could be?

Test your injectors.. One could be stuck open.. My brother had the same problem, get a multimeter and test each one, should be around 16 ohms.

sir i think you ran the car low on gas witch means to me you might have some particles or debree stuck in you injectors. for best results cleaning them disconect fuel pump and run some injector cleaner right at the fuel rail.

whats your vacuum measure? if the vacuum isn't drawing the pressure down on your fuel regulator it will be pushing alot more fuel than you need. also, check your injectors to see if they are stuck open.
also, just for the sake of amusement, pop your 9th injector off once the car is warm and see if its dumping fuel. its a separate system that runs off the cts right next to your ecm cts. its a long shot, but it might be sticking open on you.

could it be that the tps sensor is stuck open, thus dumping fuel without the trottle open?

Yes the cold start injector is the ninth. It is on the drivers side to the rear.

Re: Car running very, very rich. I mean REALLY rich
similar but problem but less cool (no flames) lol ive got a 2.8 6 cyl and im getting like 10mpg. and LOTTTTTTSSSS of carbon residue everywhere. if i let the car idle.. its built up on the ground within 10-15 mins. havnt tested injectors... but i have new wires cap rotor plugs knocked out the cat to be hollow and catback exhaust. Its more of a nuisance cause i run out of gas often cause my gas gauge is a liar. soooo yeah. and the only light that comes on is my check engine but it goes off if i have the motor around 2500 rpm. hmm. help?
